Extended Summary
Jack lay on the ground, knocked out cold. Peter appears from the shadows, wiping blood and fingerprints from the metal bar before tossing it back into the bush. He calmly retrieves Jack’s wallet and puts it in his own jacket pocket before phoning the ambulance – what disturbing game is Peter playing at?
Jack is raced to hospital, where his family react with shock to the news he has been attacked but are all thankful Peter found him when he did – if only they knew! There is relief when Dr Green reassures them Jack has sustained no serious injuries, but even in his groggy state, Jack is instantly suspicious when he learns Peter was the one who found him. Alone in the room, Martha is stunned by Jack’s suggestion that Peter is his attacker! She thinks he is being ridiculous and storms off, still angered that he won’t let go of this idea. Peter arrives and begins to question Jack’s reason for snooping around the shed. Realising that Jack is getting too close to the truth, Peter pretends to let him in on the secret, insisting that what he is about to be told is ‘strictly confidential’. Peter reveals his return to the Bay is to uncover a drug ring and the shed is the suspected storage space. Peter leaves, content he has convinced Jack but Jack is still of the firm belief that Peter is up to no good!
Martha arrives the next morning to pick Jack up from the hospital, but is bemused to discover he has already discharged himself. Jack has returned to the shed, determined to uncover the truth. He smashes the padlock, wary of what he might find, but as he enters, he can’t believe his eyes…the shed is empty! Jack heads to the police station, ready to confront Peter but is stunned when he is met by Peter dragging a suspect out of the interview room. Peter explains this is the man who attacked Jack – and holds up his wallet as proof of evidence. Jack is reeling – how could he have been so wrong? Satisfied that Jack is now off his back, Peter picks up the phone and reassures his associate on the other end of the line that nothing will get in their way now! He reaches for an envelope and removes a photo…of Zoe McCallister. What secret is Peter hiding about the Summer Bay Stalker?
Morag is stunned as she reads a flyer being passed around the Surf Club – “Amanda Vale presents the official launch of Project 56”. It’s confirmation that Amanda is indeed involved with Josh and the Tiverson Company and Morag is determined to get to the bottom of it! There is outrage as Leah and many others reveal they have received letters from Tiverson to inform them their houses are being bought out – and they have no choice in the matter! Morag insists this is only possible with council approval and suddenly the horrible realisation hits them…Josh has rorted them all! Morag fits the final piece in the puzzle and figures out Project 56 is the building of a bridge which will by-pass Summer Bay and link to a freeway running right through the town!
Robbie and Kit are furious and make it their mission to expose Josh! All they need is the evidence he is gaining from the project financially and his every act as Mayor would be illegal. Robbie calls on his ‘hacker’ mate to see what they can find on the internet. After hours of searching, they are exhausted – and their hopes of finding any dirt on Josh are diminishing. Just as the feeling of defeat hangs over them – the phone rings. Kit’s face lights up as she receives the news. Robbie’s hacker mate has found something – but just what exactly has been uncovered?
