Lucas, Matilda, Cassie and Macca walk through the bush as Cassie tries to collect leaves for her assignment – Macca is distracting her every step of the way, still keen on the party idea and making her laugh. They day is long and Lucas and Matilda take the lead with Cassie and Macca lagging behind. He starts to get fed up and wants to head back, he forces her to stop and he kisses her! As they tumble on the ground kissing, Cassie lands on something hard. She clears the scrub to discover a gun! They head to the police station with the gun wrapped in Macca’s shirt and Jack reveals that it is the same variety of gun that killed Josh! One by one, Cassie, Lucas, Matilda and Macca make statements to Peter about finding the gun. Peter sends officers to check out the spot as Jack arrives, excited, announcing that it is the murder weapon!
Forensics search as photographers shoot around the area that Bob was last known to be there is bloodon the ground. Jack arrives and Peter fills him in – no sign of anyone but signs of a struggle. They must have only missed the killer by seconds! Rice calls out when he finds a single strand of hair in the blood – they send it off immediately – hopefully it contains the killers DNA! Meanwhile, Morag is still waiting at the station after her interview – she demands to know where Bob is! Peter tells her of the blood but no one to be seen. Morag realises what she has done, Bob might be dead and if she hadn’t stuck her nose in he could be safely in custody. Peter lays into her about messing with police business, Alf stands up for her, but Morag realises the grim reality of her position. She beats herself up for it, going against everything the law stands for with her actions. Alf feels helpless to comfort her. Later that night Alf finds her, scotch in hand, on edge. She breaks down in her brothers arms. The following morning her bags are packed. Morag has decided to head back to the city. She needs to clear her head and doesn’t know if she will return this time. Alf watches her go in silence.
His mind still on Leah, Dan doesn’t feel right getting back with Amanda. He still has feelings for Leah… Hugh and Leah had a good time on their date, but Leah is still confused by her feelings. Hugh talks to Leah at the Diner as Dan enters. He sees the two of them together and heads out, but Leah spots him. Dan heads back to the Holden House as Kim is calling people about the party tonight. Kim and Dan talk about the Leah situation, how’s things? Dan isn’t so sure now that he has seen her with Hugh again – he isn’t sure of his feelings about any of this anymore… Meanwhile, Hugh talks Leah into meeting up with him later, he heads off as Irene begins to quiz Leah about this new beau. Leah gives a little info, but it is clear to Irene that something is not right with her. Leah reveals that she might still be in love with Dan – she was going to tell him, but then saw him with Amanda. She is trying to move on with Hugh because she thinks Dan doesn’t feel the same way about her… If only she knew! That night she meets up with Hugh for drinks and he admits to her that he really likes her. She’s a little thrown by this, but says she feels the same. As he moves off to buy another round, Leah’s face falls. She is clearly uncertain about all of this… They have one more drink and Leah decides to head off to collect VJ. As they are parting, Hugh pulls her into a hug and kisses her, Leah responds just as Dan enters and sees them together! A knife in his heart, Dan leaves.
Peter checks the progress on the hair found in the blood – it’s still with forensics. He is panicking as the hair is his, and doesn’t want this revealed. Is Peter the murderer?! Jack gets a set of prints from the gun the kids found – finally a breakthrough! The results will be back in a couple of hours, getting closer to the killer!
Later that night, Peter’s standing at the charge desk when Rice approaches. He pulls Peter aside, out of ear shot from Jack. Rice reveals that the fingerprints match has come back and they found their suspect in the database. Rice hands the file and Peter sees a photo of Martha MacKenzie! Is Martha the murderer?!
