Extended Summary
Jack and Fitzgerald are reeling from the discovery there is a pyromaniac in Summer Bay! Rice is briefed on the situation and reminds them Drew is still a strong suspect – it seems too coincidental that the fires began when Drew first appeared in town. Jack and Fitzgerald decide it’s time they had another chat with Drew. Meanwhile, the guy in question is having cooking lessons with Leah. Following their reconciliation, Dan couldn’t be happier that Drew is making every effort to fit in to the family now. Leah and Dan carefully broach the subject with Drew of going back to school. It’s the last thing he wants to think about and moves off with a new decision to make.
Amanda is surprised to find Belle at the Diner – she thought she was still in hospital. Amanda bites back her frustrations that Irene withheld that info. Belle thanks Amanda for her advice on how to win Ric back – so far so good! Amanda suggests they catch up later to discuss ideas for Belle’s party tomorrow. Belle couldn’t be happier but as she moves off, Amanda’s expression turns sour – she’s got other business to deal with! Irene responds to some angry knocking at her door and low and behold, it’s Amanda. Irene tries to justify why she didn’t inform Amanda that Belle was home but Amanda cuts in with the stern warning not to get in the way of her relationship with Belle, or she will regret it! Amanda storms off, leaving Irene seething – that flippin’ woman! Later, Irene has a change of heart and arrives on Amanda’s doorstep to try to work out their differences, at least for Belle’s sake. She is surprised to find Belle already there, discussing party ideas with Amanda. Belle makes herself scarce whilst the two ladies battle it out. Amanda reminds Irene she doesn’t have the right to judge her parenting skills, given her past alcoholic ways. Amanda has hit a raw nerve and Irene storms off. Leah and Colleen are taken aback by Irene’s mood when she arrives at the Diner. Irene announces that Amanda has picked the wrong person to threaten. Uh-oh the battle has well and truly begun!
Drew is wandering along the beach when he crosses with Belle. Thinking she’s a bit of a hottie, Drew digs for more info but Belle snaps back with attitude. When he discovers Belle attends Summer Bay High, Drew has a change of heart – maybe school wouldn’t be so bad after all! Drew returns home with the announcement he is willing to give school a go. Leah and Dan couldn’t be happier. At that moment, there’s a knock at the door and Dan is surprised to find Jack and Rice standing there. They want Drew to go to the station for questioning – uh-oh – what’s he done now? Drew is adamant he is not involved in any of the fires. Jack’s gut feeling is telling him Drew is innocent but if it’s not him – then who is it?
A weary Jack arrives home to find Martha dressed up to the hilt. It’s their first night alone since their wedding day and Martha wanted it to be special. He feels terrible for being so late but Martha is quickly forgiving, as they crack open their bottle of champagne. Their conversation turns to talk of their honeymoon – they both can’t wait for a few days together. At that moment, the phone rings and Jack is called out on duty. He’s left with no choice but to race out, leaving poor Martha wondering if this is how married life will be forever?
Jack arrives at the scene of the crime – the pyromaniac has struck again! Forensics scour the scene and eventually they find a clue! Back at the station, Jack inspects a half scorched watch found at the scene and finds the initials A.C. engraved on the back. Jack’s expression falls as he realises who the watch belongs to – Andrew Curtis. Uh-oh is Drew the pyromaniac?
