Extended Summary

Rachel is still reeling from Kim’s shock announcement he wants to leave the Bay! Kim insists he can no longer live in a community who hate him. He will never work again and he saw his Dad endure the same treatment from the locals. Kim insists that moving to the city seems the obvious choice and then he can be there for Hyde during his trial – but he won’t make the move with out Rachel. Rachel is stunned by the implication – is she willing to leave Summer Bay too? Rachel takes a walk to clear her mind. Brad approaches and Rachel’s strong front crumbles and she breaks down in tears. Brad takes his sister in his arms, wondering what’s wrong, and offering all the comfort he can. Rachel begins to calm down and confides in Brad the predicament she faces. Rachel is frustrated and angry Kim is being treated like a criminal and his life is being turned upside down. Rachel is torn and expresses her concern for leaving behind Brad and Emily if she decides to leave. Brad insists it’s important to stick with the ones you love in tough times and encourages Rachel to go with Kim. Rachel embraces her brother, grateful for his support. Meanwhile, Emily has caught up with Sally who is curious how Emily is feeling. Emily confides her health is seriously deteriorating but doesn’t want Brad to know. Sally shares her concerns, insisting Brad should be aware of the truth but remains supportive of Emily’s decision.

Sally and Emily return from a check-up at the hospital and Emily’s mood is darkened by the news her last days are drawing near. Suddenly, Emily receives a nose bleed and Sally rushes to her aid. Brad arrives home and the ladies try to cover up what’s happened. Brad moves off none the wiser but Sally can’t keep lying. Emily bursts into tears, the harsh reality of her fate is sinking in – and she makes the decision Brad must know the truth. Brad returns home and is instantly aware of Sally and Emily’s awkward behaviour. Emily insists Brad sit down, she has something to tell him. Brad’s heart sinks as he braces himself for the worst.

Beth and Matilda return from the retreat. Tony gives Matilda a big hug, happy to have her home again. Lucas, on the other hand, couldn’t be any more awkward, following the discovery of Matilda being with Dean. Once Matilda and Lucas have a moment alone, Matilda becomes aware of Lucas’s abruptness. Matilda questions him on it and is shocked to learn Lucas knows about the kiss. She feels terrible for hurting Lucas, but before he has the chance to reply, Tony appears and ushers Lucas out the door. Tony recognises Lucas is down in the dumps and is supportive as Lucas opens up about any hopes he had of getting back with Matilda, have now been crushed. Meanwhile, Matilda is having a similar chat with Beth. Matilda expresses her guilt over hurting Lucas but Beth assures her that Lucas will deal with it. Lucas returns home and Matilda is once again met with a frosty reception. Matilda apologises for making him feel this way and hopes they can still be friends. Matilda moves off, poor Lucas is heart broken.

Kim is relieved and grateful when Rachel delivers the news she will go with him to the city. Kim throws another spanner in the works when he reveals he wants to go by the end of the day! Rachel is overwhelmed – she has so much to organise! Down at the Diner, Rachel and Kim spread the news of their decision and is everyone is stunned to hear they are leaving…and so soon! Morag arrives with the news that Kim’s bail can be transferred to the city but it turns out she has stumbled across some interesting info on Tara which may prove his innocence. Kim and Rachel are thrilled as Morag reveals a document containing Tara’s missing files will be couriered to her. Kim is hopeful the document will contain evidence that Tara has done something like this in the past. The moment is interrupted by the arrival of the courier and Kim waits with baited breath as Morag opens and scans the document. Her face falls as she reads Tara’s conviction was merely for shoplifting. Kim is instantly deflated – so much for a reprieve. Now he’s back to square one and it looks like he will still be leaving the Bay. No one can believe things have come to this as they gather to farewell Kim. Kim packs his belongings in the car and braces himself for the goodbyes. At last he reaches Rachel, who will follow him soon but is still deeply upset. As they hold each other, declaring their love, Kim eventually hops in the car. Rachel’s eyes fill with tears as she watches Kim drive away. Good bye Kim…
