Extended Summary
At Amanda’s house, Dan is insisting that Ryan gather his things to come back to Leah’s place. Amanda tells Ryan he doesn’t have to do anything he doesn’t want – but Dan tells him to continue. The poor kid is confused as his parents continue with conflicting views as the argument escalates and Ryan cries out for them to just stop it! Kelli tells them she’ll make sure Ryan’s taken care of – let him stay the night and they can sort it all out tomorrow. The next morning Dan arrives and lets Amanda know he’s organised a mediation hearing for that afternoon – he’s applying for full custody of Ryan. Amanda can’t believe he’s actually going through with this.
Kelli comes home later, having found Amanda a solicitor – but Amanda’s not around. Kelli’s expression falls when she sees an envelope… We then see Amanda behind the wheel, speeding along with Ryan in the car. She’s doing a runner! Kelli races to the Diner to tell Dan and Leah and they’re stunned! Kelli has called the police. Amanda continues to speed along, then a police car appears, siren sounding. Amanda speeds up, as they gain on her. Jack has blocked her path, but she isn’t going to stop – forcing Jack to quickly reverse – Ryan screams as Amanda slams on the breaks, tears streaming down her face.
Jack takes the keys. Leah and Dan arrive on the scene – Dan puts it to Amanda that she do the decent thing and hand Ryan over to him – Amanda, resigned and devastated, agrees that he’s better off with Dan. He’s taking full custody and Amanda couldn’t be more gutted – she’s lost Peter, Belle and now her son, forever.
Belle makes her way to the beach, when a guy (Jules) zips along on his motorbike and stops in front of her – who is this new arrival? Jules tries to sweet talk her and gives her his number to the not impressed Belle. Jules then heads to the Diner, and flirts with Leah. She puts him in his place – and is curious when he asks after Andrew Curtis. Drew then appears from the kitchen – mate – what are you doing here?! It’s his old room mate from boarding school. Jules lets him know he quit school – his parents are cool with it – he’s taking a road trip on his bike. Can he crash with him for a few days? He’ll have to check with Leah – Jules explains he asked for her number – it’s my aunt Jules!
Belle enters and Jules says watch and learn – he flirts with her – she tells him to drop dead, realising he’s a mate of Drew’s – she tells him she isn’t surprised. They enjoy trading insults, the attraction between them still alive and well. Jules can’t believe Belle is Drew’s ex and is also shocked to learn that his dad is still alive. He’s a little panicky to learn that Peter is still a cop/detective, but covers, as Drew shows him around Leah’s place. Make yourself at home. Jules sneaks out and quickly takes the rego plates off his motorbike – dodgy boy…
An exhausted Jack fills Tony in on the drug raid at the club last night and Martha’s charges. Colleen over hears and rants about having a drug dealer living upstairs – Jack tells her to keep it down, but he’s too late – Sally and Alf have walked in and heard all – Jack has no choice but to fill them in. Jack insists that Martha’s innocent, Alf wants to kill Cam, but Sally knows she has to speak with her. Sally tries to talk with Martha – but she’s quick to let her know she doesn’t need help. Defeated, Sal leaves, as Cam plants the idea in Martha’s mind that Jack planted the drugs on her. She doesn’t believe it, but the doubt is now there.
Jack asks Peter for advice RE Martha’s charges. Peter implies that if the evidence were to go missing, then the defendant can’t be found guilty. Jack knows what he has to do. He seizes the drugs stored in Martha’s evidence folder and pockets them. He knows he’s putting his career on the line – but he’s had no choice but to do it for Martha…
