Extended Summary
Jack has being noticing that Martha and Hugh have been spending quite a bit of time together. He sees a blossoming romance and he doesn’t like the idea. He still harbours feelings for Martha and deep down he thinks they may still have a chance together. So, when Martha asks him over to dinner with her and Hugh and suggests he brings Cody, who Jack recently told her was his new girlfriend, Jack accepts. Only problem is – Cody stood Jack up on their one and only date and she hasn’t been taking his calls since. Jack is troubled, caught between a rock and a hard place, and unburdens himself to Alf. Alf relates a story from his own youth about how he got out of going to a school dance with a girl he didn’t want to be with and Jack decides he can adapt that plan for the dinner party. Jack turns up alone at Martha’s and tells her that Cody is running late and will be there shortly.
In the meantime, Hugh cancels as he has to work a double shift at the Hospital. Jack had earlier teed up Lucas to call him – pretending to be Cody – and say she couldn’t make the dinner. Lucas calls, albeit late, and it looks like Jack’s in for a dream night with just him and Martha. All goes swimmingly until Martha heads down to the Diner to collect dessert and bumps into Alf who inadvertently lets slip about Jack’s imaginary girlfriend. Martha has some fun with the information until finally putting Jack out of his misery by forcing him to come clean – Cody was never going to come and she’s certainly not his girlfriend. At night’s end Jack and Martha have a “moment” at the door and we’re left wondering if maybe Jack’s right and there still is a chance for further romance between this pair.
Drew is missing having Jules to knock around with and is taking it out on Dan. He has attitude coming out of every pore and Dan’s having trouble dealing with it. He and Leah have become increasingly concerned that Drew is making life-altering decisions, like the one to drop out of school, by himself. No matter what Dan says to Drew it seems to result in an argument. Leah and Dan are only too pleased that Jules isn’t around as he was a bad influence on Drew and the boys. When Belle wants to go down the beach Drew has a better idea. He suggests they sneak over to Amanda’s House and swim and sit around the pool. Belle’s reluctant but goes along with the idea and Cassie tags along too.
When they arrive they find that someone’s broken into the house – worse – the intruder is still inside. Drew doesn’t hesitate to go in and eventually wrestles the intruder to the ground and unmasks him – it’s Jules. He’s been there a week and looks hungry, dirty and is dishevelled. After much debate Belle agrees that Jules can spend a few more days there and Drew is delighted. Later, after yet another fight with Dan, Drew tells him his leaving Leah’s place. Dan’s furious but by the end of the day Drew and Jules have become flatmates!
