Tension is high between Tony and Lucas as Lucas tries to apologise for lying to him about the dinghy. But Tony isn’t ready to trust him. As he tells Kit: ‘What’s the point in trying to patch things up with Luc when all I get in return are lies and disrespect?’
The mood between Rachel and Kim is no less tense. While Rachel is determined to make her marriage work, she can’t stop thinking about Hugh – and she’s left reeling when Martha reveals that Hugh asked her not to give Rachel his forwarding address. Kim, meanwhile, is heavily distracted as he struggles with the reality of making the hardest decision of his life: does he want a future with Rachel, or with Kit and Archie?
Meanwhile, Sally gives Annie and Lucas a tour of the school. Annie’s nervous about starting classes and not at all sure what to expect. Geoff reassures her that she’s going to love it, but when Lucas angrily confronts him it’s clear that Geoff has made a fierce enemy. Lucas’s anger escalates to the point where he punches out Geoff – and in punishment Sally insists that he start tutoring Annie who’s struggling with a learning disability. Lucas is furious at being forced into close contact with Geoff’s sister – but Sally is giving him no choice.
When Lucas lashes out at Geoff again, Sally sits him down and asks what the problem is – is this really about the tension between him and his dad? Lucas hesitates, badly needing to confide in someone. Is he about to reveal the truth about Tony and Naomi’s relationship?
Feeling increasingly isolated from his family after the dramas with Naomi, and still devastated at the loss of Beth, Tony finds solace in casual relationships with women he meets in the bar – a fact that Jack is stunned to learn from Martha.
He goes to Tony and sets him straight, warning him that he needs to pay serious attention to his relationship with Lucas before he goes any further off the rails. Tony knows he’s right and makes an attempt at reaching out to his youngest son. Lucas, too, is unhappy about the tension between them. They make a step towards a tentative reconciliation – but it’s early days yet…
