Jack gives in to Sam’s ultimatum and agrees to pull back on his friendship with Martha. But when Jack tells Martha, she is deeply hurt and doesn’t understand how he could throw their friendship away so easily. However, Rory inadvertently helps Martha see that Sam is still very afraid of her future – even though Shane is dead. Martha realises how important it is to Sam and Rory for Jack to give them his full commitment. Martha swallows her pride and her hurt and tells Sam she understands her position and will respect her wishes.
At the Campbell Farm, Geoff has become curious about his grandfather’s locked cabinet. Unbeknownst to his grandchildren, this is where Bruce keeps important documents and a china box containing his heart medication. When Bruce accidentally leaves the key in the lock, Geoff takes the opportunity to look inside. He discovers the china box and his parents’ will. Annie catches him in the act (although she doesn’t see the will.) She chides him for opening the cabinet, worried that Bruce will be furious if he finds out. In his haste to close the cabinet, Geoff drops the china box; smashing it. Although the kids don’t see the vial of pills roll under the sideboard, they still panic about the broken box – if they don’t replace it in time, Bruce will know for sure they’ve been snooping. Annie heads for Yabbie Creek to buy a replacement, even though it means skipping school. Meanwhile, Geoff secretly reads his parents’ will, and is clearly angered by its content.
Meanwhile, Sam has received a letter from Shane’s social worker asking her to collect his ashes. Given the pain and suffering he has caused, Sam refuses. Jack realizes Rory is still very confused over Shane’s death and wonders if scattering Shane’s ashes might help Rory move forward. Sam reluctantly agrees, and so Jack sets about organizing a small service on the pier. Both Sam and Rory benefit from the experience; finally getting some closure on their harrowing past.
Over at the school, Fisher is disappointed that Annie has been skipping classes. A worried Lucas decides to head to the farm to check on her. Once there, he and Annie make a horrific discovery – someone has poisoned the breeding ewes. Annie, Lucas and Bruce are all left reeling – who could have committed such a heinous crime?
