Extended Summary
Everyone’s struggling to come to terms with Lisa’s death. Given their long-standing animosity, Belle is surprised at the sharpness of her own grief. For all that they clashed, Belle admired Lisa’s toughness, and she’s angry with Drew for not seeming to care about the fate of his ex – which means Belle has mixed feelings when Jazz announces that Drew has been arrested for receiving stolen goods.
Jazz is determined to protect her son any way she can, but the evidence against Drew is strong. Jazz encourages him to tell the police the truth – that Dom sold him the hot spare parts. But to her frustration, Drew is resigned to his fate, pointing out that even if he does dob in Dom, he’s guilty: “I knew what I was doing, and there’s no point dragging anyone else into this mess.” He also makes it clear that if he talks to the cops, Dom will make sure he’s heavied by the wreckers behind the stolen parts racket. Shaken, Jazz asks Belle to help Drew – to support him and encourage him to go to the police. But Belle isn’t ready to help Drew. In fact, she’s not even sure she knows who he is anymore. Can their relationship survive this growing rift?
Meanwhile, Lucas seems wired – and we learn that he’s been up all night writing. Lisa’s death has unlocked a flood of words that he needs to get on paper – words that Fisher inadvertently ends up reading. And it’s Fisher who reassures a guilty Lucas that he’s done nothing wrong in drawing on his own life – rather, it’s an authentic and courageous act encouraging him to follow his dream and nurture his writing talent.
Increasingly worried about Drew’s fate, Jazz goes to the police and organises to cut a deal – if Drew gives a statement confirming what he knows about the stolen parts racket, he’ll avoid jail. Drew is deeply uneasy about this – fearing that he’ll be bashed – but Jazz doesn’t give him any choice. And it seems that her plan is a success, when the police assure Drew that he’ll escape charges once they use the stolen spare parts from his car as evidence to convict the wreckers. But Dom and Ray have other ideas. The police impound Drew’s car overnight at Ray’s garage – and under cover of darkness, Dom splashes petrol around Drew’s car and lights a torch. The car goes up in flames, destroying the evidence that would have exonerated Drew. Has Drew’s hope of escaping charges just been destroyed?
