Extended Summary
Annie and Geoff are suspicious of the relationship between Michael and Bruce. Irene tries to calm them, but Annie points out that Bruce has always refused to have strangers work on the farm. And Geoff’s disturbed that Bruce seemed to completely rely on Michael – it’s almost as if Michael has taken the place of his family. Irene can’t help worrying that Michael might be trying to take advantage of a sick old man, but she does her best to reassure the kids that everything’s going to be fine.
But when Irene goes to the farm in search of Annie, she’s horrified to find Jonah talking with Annie. Fiercely protective, Irene orders Geoff and Annie away from Jonah. Fronting up to him, she demands to know what he’s doing here, and is stunned to learn that he now calls himself Michael and is in fact Bruce’s farmhand. Irene makes it clear that if he goes anywhere near Annie or any other kid – if he tries to start up the Believers again – she’ll have him run out of town. Deeply worried, she tries to warn Bruce that Michael is not to be trusted, but the old man stubbornly refuses to listen. And Irene’s frustration and concern only deepen when Jack and Fitzy report that there’s nothing they can do to stop Jonah/Michael living in the area. Irene grimly observes that maybe the cops can’t do anything to stop Jonah hurting kids, but she can! Just what is Irene planning to do?
Meanwhile, Jack and Sam organise their engagement party. They’re rushing around madly trying to get everything ready in time – and we see that Jack is still disturbed by his ‘goodbye’ kiss with Martha. But when he stands up at the party and makes a speech about his love for Sam, it seems that his doubts are laid to rest.
The party’s a success, but Rory’s distracted by the very cool new girl he’s met, Tam, who turns up at their house with a story about having lived there years ago. Rory agrees to let her in the house, but when it’s revealed that Tam’s stolen Jack’s watch and a few other items, he finds himself in hot water. So it seems like a lucky break when Rory and Jack spy Tam fleeing from a car. Discovering their stolen items stashed away in the car, Jack is puzzled to discover that the girl has also stolen a framed photograph of Rachel. What on earth is Tam’s connection to Rachel?
