The police question Brad over his relationship with Tam. Jazz’s husband comes to the Bay seeking reconciliation. Disaster threatens Lucas and Belle’s major art work.
Extended Summary
Brad is furious when he has to convince the police that he isn’t holding Tam in his motel room against her will, and that he’s her brother and not her lover. He finally does, but it costs him a job at the Catholic school and causes him huge embarrassment in the process. Brad knows now that he can’t manage Tam without help. Tam, feeling unwanted, sets off to find her mum. It’s Sally that sees her walking along the road and, when she can’t convince Tam to go home, she takes over teaching Brad’s class while he goes and collects her. Brad promises Tam that he’ll try harder with her, and eventually decides to accept Sally’s long standing offer to have Tam crash at Summer Bay House. It’s the first real sign of a thaw in Sally and Brad’s recently frosty relationship and Brad builds on it by offering to stay on teaching at Summer Bay for an additional six weeks to help Sally out.
Jazz’s life is in turmoil. Having lost her mother’s inheritance and been banished from Drew’s world, she turns to her husband, Kevin, for help. Kevin brings his two young girls to visit, in the hope of reconciling with Jazz. When Drew sees Kevin in town he knows what Jazz is up to and, despite everyone’s advice not to, he visits Kevin and tells him he’s a sucker and that Jazz has only called him because she needs a meal ticket and there’s no one else to provide it. Kevin tells Drew to back off. He doesn’t want his advice and he’s keen to take Jazz back. Drew does keep his distance for awhile, but when he learns that Jazz plans to send the young girls off to boarding school Drew sees red. Drew believes the girls are too young, and that Jazz’s fobbing them off like she did to him. Drew now tells Kevin that Jazz has been sleeping around since she’s been in the Bay. While Kevin doesn’t want to believe it, when he later confronts Jazz on the issue, she can’t deny it.
Belle and Lucas have been working on their major art work for the HSC exam. They have taken “Corruption of the Planet” as their theme and Belle has worked on a photographic presentation while Lucas has made a sculpture. While they have worked separately they will exhibit the piece together as an installation. Lucas and Belle put the finishing touches on the piece and are stoked by the end result. They both feel confident that they will earn good marks for the installation and head off to scope out the exhibition space. While they’re gone Tony arrives home and starts to prepare dinner, while having a glass of wine. He’s interrupted when a distraught Jazz visits. Kevin has taken the girls back to the city. He was her last chance and now he’s gone too. Tony offers Jazz comfort, which rapidly turns into passion and results in a wine bottle being upended. Neither Jazz nor Tony notices the wine puddle that forms all over the installation.
