Extended Summary
The fallout from Ric and Matilda’s break-up continues and Matilda refuses to even take his calls. When she bumps into Aden’s cousin, Simon, Matilda starts to see another side of him as she learns about his dreams and aspirations. They start to get along well and, on the spur of the moment, and in an attempt to make Ric jealous, she asks him home which eventually leads to Simon and Matilda sleeping together.
Tony discovers Matilda trying to sneak Simon out the next morning and isn’t impressed, but Matilda is sick of being told what to do and tells Tony, in no uncertain terms, that she’ll see who she wants to see in her own house. Ric is devastated when Matilda tells him she’s slept with Simon. He can’t believe that she’s moved on from him so easily. However a phone message from Morag, which Ric relays to Cassie, turns everything on its head. Simon is going to be the prosecution’s star witness against Cassie, and he intends to give evidence that she was smoking pot just before the accident. Cassie, who has been trying so hard to stay positive about the upcoming Court case, now realises that there is a very real chance that she could be going to goal.
Rachel freaks out when she finds a note on her car windscreen which says “you are being watched.” She and Tony go to the police, both convinced that the note’s been put there by the hospital attacker, as it was Rachel who discovered his bloody parker in the hospital laundry, before it later went missing. The police refuse to link the two things without evidence. When a second, deeply personal note, “what did you do with your baby” turns up, Rachel becomes really fearful. It’s clear that the person who’s leaving the notes knows even intimate details about her life. Still the police are unable to do anything except boost their presence around the hospital. Rachel’s sure that the attacker and the note leaver are the same person, and that she’s his next intended victim.
Drew has started looking for a new job, but becomes increasingly frustrated with each knock-back he gets. When Dan suggests that he tries using some initiative instead of just applying for jobs advertised in the paper Drew arranges to meet with Viv, but she doesn’t have anything for him either. Leah feels for Drew, knows he’s trying really hard. She points out that with more and more young people going to Uni it’s going to be increasingly difficult to get decent jobs. In a subtle way Leah leads Drew into realizing that he really needs his HSC to have any shot at a rosy future.
