Extended Summary

Despite Aden’s best efforts to humiliate Miles at school, Miles wins over the students and alienates Aden by breaking the news of Sally’s departure and suggesting they organise a farewell concert for her. Mr. Bartlett is impressed with Miles for doing such a good job with the students but makes it clear that Miles should have gained his permission first to do the project before launching into it. Miles points out that this could be good a good opportunity for Bartlett to prove there are no hard feeling between him and Miss Fletcher. Bartlett can’t disagree with that, but tells Miles he knows he’s been played and it isn’t to happen again. Nevertheless, Miles can’t help but be pleased by such a successful day.

When Roman tells her he’s been waylaid, once again, Martha’s convinced that Roman is deliberately avoiding telling her about his daughter. She’s unaware that his excuse is genuine and that he’s been urgently called to met up with Leah and Irene. He and Irene find Leah outside a large building on the water, with a huge grin on her face. She tells them she’s had a great idea how to use the money she’s been given… She’s going to lease the building and Irene and Roman can have one half for a new diner, and she’ll take the other to open a haven for the local kids in Dan’s memory. It looks like they’ve been saved! When Roman tells Martha, she’s thrilled for him and he decides it’s time he told her the truth about his daughter. His revelation cements their relationship as an official couple.

Annie isn’t happy with Geoff’s crush on Britney and is determined to find him a more suitable girl. She points out Melody; a quiet bookworm from her year, and religious to boot to Geoff. But Geoff doesn’t see why he should have to change who he likes. Annie goads him into asking Britney to church to prove her point that he isn’t suited to Britney. As suspected by Annie, Britney rejects Geoff’s invitation to church. When Geoff still isn’t interested in Melody, Annie forces him to admit the real reason he doesn’t like her. He finally confesses that he doesn’t find Melody attractive, and the poor girl rounds the corner just in time to hear him say it. She’s shattered and Geoff is left feeling terrible.
