Extended Summary
Despite his initial reservations, it seems that Jazz might turn Tony’s reunion from a disaster into a good night, and Jazz is just pleased things seem to be going according to plan. But an unthinking comment about Rachel reveals her true colours, and with her charm disarmed, Jazz falls back on plan B, getting Tony drunk. By the time they get back to the hotel, it seems to be working perfectly, but when, as they begin to kiss, Tony mutters Rachel’s name, clearly unaware of who he’s really with, Jazz finally gives up, admitting defeat. Tony only has eyes for Rachel.
Roman has a romantic surprise for Martha, candlelight dinner in the new Diner, she’s the first person to eat there before it opens, and the two spend the night together, their happiness a stark contrast to the hell Jack is going through.
After all her efforts to protect herself, Sam’s secret is out, and as Jack reads Johnny’s letter in a state of shock and betrayal, Sam can do nothing as her happy future unravels. Jack’s first instinct is to go straight to the cops, but Sam’s pleading leads him to make a deal.
He gives her a twelve hour head start before he goes to the cops, she can take the car and as much money as she needs, but she has to leave Rory with him. He tells her to pack her things, a devastated Jack drinks away his problems, spending the night on the beach. But when he gets back, head still spinning out of control, he can’t believe that Sam is still there. It seems she’s left him no option, but before he can call the police, she utters the only words that could possibly stay his hand. She’s pregnant.
