Geoff struggles to tell Melody his true feelings. Morag presses Martha to make a shocking confession to the police.

Extended Summary

As Annie and Geoff are on their way to school they are alarmed to see an ambulance and police cars parked on the side of the road. There is a dead body on a stretcher being brought up from the beach. Belle is also on the scene and her journalistic instincts kick in as she snaps some photos and tries to get information out of the police at the scene. Geoff is particularly disgusted at Belle’s professional drive versus lack of respect for the dead. Indeed, Gavin gives Belle praise for her ruthlessness when she returns to the office with front page news, but she’s left feeling thrown by her enjoyment of his praise. She is completely shocked when it’s confirmed that the dead body is Samantha Holden.

Tony and Rachel are thrown when Fitzgerald arrives on their footstep in search for Jack. Tony explains he hasn’t seen Jack since the previous night at Stewart’s Point and Rachel gives details to the phone call she received from Sam. Fitzgerald then reveals that Sam is dead – it looks as though she drowned – but they are treating it as suspicious. Tony and Rachel are deeply shocked; they know what this could mean for Jack. However, Fitzgerald receives a phone call… her colleagues have found a suicide note from Sam!

Geoff feels terrible for Rory and tells Annie and Melody that he’s going to go and visit him in the city. Assuming her role as Geoff’s ‘girlfriend’, Melody says she’ll go with him. Geoff confides in Matilda about his frustrations of Melody acting like she’s his girlfriend. He doesn’t want to go out with her, but how is he going to let her know that without hurting her?

Constable Fitzgerald arrives at the car where the suicide note was found. She believes the case is all wrapped up, however Constable Hanna believes otherwise – could the note be forged? It’s clear that Fitzgerald doesn’t want this case to be a homicide… she’s obviously concerned about what the ramifications could be for Jack. Fitzgerald later interviews Morag about her reported sighting of Sam the previous night. During this, Martha arrives to overhear the news of Sam’s death but something in her reaction to the news makes Fitzy and Morag suspicious.

After Fitzy leaves, Morag questions Martha on it, and she reluctantly reveals that Sam threatened Martha saying that she had to give her a lump sum of cash so that she could go on the run, otherwise, Sam would divulge all the information about Jack being a crooked cop. Martha explains she went to the beach to meet Sam, but she never showed up. Martha called for Roman’s help, but still there was no sign of her. Morag can’t believe how stupid Martha was to do this, and when she connects the scratch on Martha’s face (given by Sam); Morag knows they have to go to the police and explain. However, things go from bad to worse when Fitzgerald receives the preliminary autopsy notes – there was no water found in Sam’s lungs. The case now becomes a murder investigation!
