Will Roman’s efforts push Martha into Jack’s arms? Morag’s theory proves correct.
Extended Summary
Roman’s friends from his army days have arrived at the Bay and the weather is taking a turn for the worse, the race is on to find the sunken dinghy. But their chances were never high, and with visibility underwater low, the day drags on with little sign of success. The Titanic could be down there and they wouldn’t see it. Finally, his characteristic cool exterior is shed to reveal stress and frustration beneath. Roman calls it a day, hating himself for failing Martha when she needs him most.
At Tony’s house, Jack divides everyone into teams, each with a list of pubs to search. With Fitzgerald and a couple of other cops who still believe Jack’s innocent as well as Tony, Jazz, Morag and Martha, it seems they might have better luck finding the man who gave Sam the bruises than Roman finding the boat. Jazz and Tony are off to a shaky start, and Jazz decides on a new tactic, searching out the toughest looking guy and telling him they need someone beaten up. He tells them to wait, he knows someone, could this be the guy they’re looking for? But the man their lead returns with is an undercover cop, here to arrest them.
When he won’t listen, their only chance is to call Jack to get them out of trouble. Meanwhile, Jack has finally found a bartender who recognises the photo of Sam, pointing to the man she spoke to. But just as he makes his approach he gets the call from Tony, and he’s forced to drop the lead and go help out his dad. Has he just lost his only chance of proving his innocence? But the man is still there when Jack gets back from helping Tony and Jazz, and though unhelpful at first, Jack presses the point and gets the information he needs.
Morag’s own portion of the search is cut short when she receives an urgent call from Ross Buckton. The dinghy has been found when it caught the anchor rope of another vessel and was brought up onto the beach. By sheer luck, all the pieces of the puzzle have come together, and Jack and Martha are off the hook! But as everyone celebrates, Martha’s eyes are on Jack, and Roman can’t help wondering if he hasn’t come out the loser in all of this.
