Will Miles save his job? To everyone’s disbelief, Noel gets bail. The Coastal News has plans for the Den.
Extended Summary
Miles is feeling a lot more positive about the P & C meeting now that Morag’s come up with a plan. Meaning well but despite Miles asking her not to, Jazz attempts to blackmail Bartlett into keeping Miles on, no matter what the result of the meeting, but this time he’s not afraid of her threats. Finally the meeting gets started, and the parents are as appalled by Christine’s photos as she had planned, until Morag points out that the act of taking photos of kids on school grounds without their consent is quite illegal, and wonders what sort of person would do such a thing. It seems Christine has been de-clawed, until she moves on to plan B.
Melody could die when Christine presents her to the entire meeting. But as Christine details Melody’s newfound interest in Geoff and the recent drop in her marks, humiliating her and blaming it all on Miles, it seems she’s doing more harm than good, and finally Melody can’t take anymore, and blows up before fleeing the meeting. Spurned on by her daughter’s attack, Christine in turn attacks Miles and his history on the street. This time nobody’s impressed by her pettiness, and when she calls for a vote to dismiss Miles, it goes firmly and unanimously against her.
To everyone’s disbelief, Noel’s gotten bail, and he’s already out of jail. Knowing he’s probably smart enough to stay away, Ric nevertheless decides it would be best for Viv to come and stay at Summer Bay House. But when Viv overhears a conversation where Ric voices his worry that if Noel finds Viv, he’ll be able to talk her around, she knows its true. Later that night Matilda finds Viv’s room empty but for a note. Viv has gone into hiding, but she’ll let him know when the baby is born. Though it hurts, Ric feels it’s best not to try to find her.
Belle’s feeling confident about running the Den on her own while Leah’s at the meeting. Until kids begin arriving for a reading of Spring Awakening. It seems a young university student has decided the Den is the perfect location to fight for free speech. Leah doesn’t answer her phone, and though hesitant, Belle lets it go ahead. This is what the Den is supposed to be for, after all. It seems her fears have come too little – the play is so boring the audience is struggling to stay awake – until a reporter from the Coastal News arrives, and Belle’s left to wonder what he’ll manage to come up with to turn this into a story.
Unaware that Melody was forced to go to the meeting, Geoff is waiting home alone for her to arrive. When she does, it’s in tears, devastated, and she doesn’t want to go back home ever again.
