Can Matilda cope with Ric’s temper any longer? What are the real reasons Jai wants Matilda’s help? Is this the end for Kirsty and Kane?
Extended Summary
Ric is back at work after the robbery but it is clear to others that he is not coping well. Miles is concerned he may be over-doing it and persuades him to take some time off. But, his relaxing day off doesn’t seem to have helped him control his temper. He’s aggressive to surfers at the surf shop, moody when Matilda can’t join him for lunch and has a go at Jai for interrupting his sleep. The final blow comes when he snaps at Matilda in front of Alf and Jai, just as she was about to present him with a surprise breakfast she’d prepared. When he realises what he has done, he rushes to apologise but has he over-stepped the mark one too many times?
Miles is still trying to think of a way to help Leah with her financial struggle but settles for persuading her to talk to Irene and Roman. They will need to know, whatever Leah decides to do. Meanwhile, he is getting suspicious as to the real reasons for Jai wanting Matilda to tutor him. He suspects he may have a crush on her and suggests that Jai cut back on the tutorials to give Matilda and Ric a bit of space.
It is the day of Kane’s court case. Kirsty and Morag have one last unsuccessful attempt at persuading him to plead not guilty. But Kane is determined to face the consequences of his actions and pleads guilty. Despite quality character references, he is sentenced to nine years in gaol. Morag and Kirsty begin talking about an appeal but a visit to the gaol to discuss it with Kane has Morag facing some bad news. Not only does Kane reject the idea of an appeal, he also wants his wife and child out of his life. It’s up to Morag to break the news to a stunned Kirsty.
