Nicole’s not winning any friends. Will Kirsty survive her first day on the job? Jack and Martha struggle to cope with the hand they’ve been dealt.

Extended Summary

Jack and Martha have been knocked off their feet by the news that Martha may have breast cancer. Jack tries to convince himself that Martha will be fine, after all, they won’t know for certain if she even has the cancer until the test results come in. But Martha is more worried about her baby, and the effects any treatment might have on it. Either way, they’re going to have to wait an agonising few days for the test results, and to find out where they stand.

It’s Kirsty’s first day as the new school secretary, and she’s packing it. When she bumps into Nicole in the Diner, literally, and spills coffee all over herself, it doesn’t help. When she finally gets to work after changing shirts, Bartlett immediately gives her an important document to format and email, and she manages to delete it.

After going to Miles for help, he suggests someone who might be more suited to resolving her dilemma; Jai. But he has little success working from her USB hard drive on one of the student computers, and instead gives her the instructions she’ll need to retrieve the information herself. To her great relief, it works. Despite this small victory, Kirsty is taken completely by surprise when Bartlett compliments her on a great first day. He even asks her to come as a supervisor on the school camp. Could her luck finally be changing?

Feeling isolated and alone, especially now that Aden is spending so much time with Belle, Nicole offers her help when Geoff is forced by his own politeness into a lunch date he doesn’t want. When the girl, Elle arrives, it is to find Nicole draped all over him. But Geoff, Annie and Ruby think it was too much, and when the girl calls her on it later it nearly ends in a cat fight. When Kirsty pulls them apart Nicole swears to make her time at the camp a living Hell.
