Extended Summary

Will Ric and Matilda change their minds? Nicole has had it with Summer Bay. Will Martha put the life of her child ahead of her own?

Things just keep getting worse for Jack and Martha. For Martha to have a real chance at beating her cancer, she’ll have to terminate the baby. Jack wants to do whatever it takes to save Martha, but she can’t bear the thought of sacrificing the baby for herself. After much soul searching, and to Jack’s despair, Martha decides to have the baby. She’ll have whatever treatment won’t threaten it, but everything else will have to wait until after it’s born.

Nicole finally seems to be making an effort, even cooking dinner for Roman. But when she shrugs off the news about Martha, and persists in asking about Elliot, she and Roman end up having yet another fight.

Finally, Roman suggests that, if Nicole hates it in Summer Bay so much, she go and spend her holidays with her mother. Nicole accepts the suggestion, assuming as she packs her bags that Roman’s bluffing, and will ask her to stay. When he doesn’t, she’s hurt, and unwilling to back down, makes her way to the bus stop. It’s there that Elliot sees her while driving past. He offers her a lift, and she accepts it immediately, but could he have an ulterior motive?

Having heard about Martha, Matilda arrives at Ric’s door to offer comfort. Overcome by emotion, they fall quickly into an embrace that leads to the bedroom. But the next morning, with things in perspective, Matilda realises she shouldn’t have spent the night. It’s thrown everything they’d resolved back up in the air.

After her night with Ric, and with Martha sick, Matilda’s no longer sure that leaving is the right thing to do. Ric decides that life’s too short not to try the long distance thing after all. But for the same reason, Matilda realises life is too fleeting to hold onto the past, and decides to head towards a fresh start in Perth. To Ric’s dismay, their night together hasn’t changed anything.
