Will Ric see sense before Matilda leaves? Will a bit of harmless mischief backfire on Axel and Jai? Aden sends Larry off the deep end.
Extended Summary
Ric is feeling hurt and used after learning that despite their night together, Matilda is still going away, and she’s uninterested in rethinking the long distance relationship option. Though feeling down herself, Matilda allows Belle to convince her to have a small farewell party. Matilda invites Ric, but he’s still to hurt to accept the invitation, deciding instead to offer his final, curt goodbye there and then. But left alone cleaning up the bait shop, Ric realises he wants to end things properly, and then accidentally locks himself in the store room.
As Matilda wonders where he is, Ric fights to escape, but by the time Alf unlocks the door, Matilda is already gone.
After considerable effort, Larry’s been sober for some time now, and it’s helping with his recovery. But Nurse Julie warns him to just keep focusing on that, and not to get his hopes up about Aden just yet. Nevertheless, when Aden visits, Larry jumps the gun, expressing his desire for Aden to move back in. Aden’s surprised that his father still doesn’t get it, he’s never going to move back in, whether Larry’s drunk or sober. Hit hard by this realisation, Larry finds solace once more at the bottom of a bottle, but this time at the wheel of a car.
Unperturbed by the trouble he got in after the school camp prank, Axel sets his eyes on Matilda’s scooter. Jai’s not so sure, but when Axel promises they’ll only take it for a quick spin and get it back good as new, he gives in, and the boys go hooning off.
Matilda and Belle drive towards the train station, Aden walks off his anger by the side of the road, Jai and Axel race along on the scooter having the time of their lives, and a drunken Larry loses control of his car and hits something hard.
