Bartlett and Kirsty rally to help the students cope with the shocking news. Larry goes missing after confessing to Aden. What is going on with Jai?
Extended Summary
Summer Bay is reeling over Axels’ death. Bartlett asks Kirsty if she would give up some of her holiday time to develop a plan to help students deal with the tragedy. She agrees and they meet to discuss it but Bartlett is keen that the conversation is not all business. He tells Kirsty he was brought up by a single parent and that he understands how tough it must be. Kirsty is touched by his compassion and wonders if she is seeing a softie underneath that tough exterior.
Aden’s suspicions that his father was driving the car that killed Axel are growing. He tells Belle about the blood-stained shirt he found and they head off to find Larry. When they do, Larry is trying to conceal his dented car in bushes and confesses all, agreeing to go to the Police Station with them. But first, he says, Aden must buy him a bottle of whisky to calm his nerves. Fearing this may be the only way to get his father to do the right thing, Aden heads to the Surf Club, leaving Larry by the car. But, when he returns, the car has been burnt out and there’s no sign of Larry. Aden and Belle have no choice but to go to the police without him.
Miles can’t help but wonder if Axels’ death will be enough to send Jai over the edge. So, when he hears that Alf nearly ran into Jai wandering aimlessly in the middle of the road, he dashes off to find him. When he does, Jai is confused; why did Axel die and not him, why did all his family die yet he is still here? Miles tries to normalise it but he’s concerned about the ideas that Jai is forming.
Annie is also concerned for Jai. When she finds out it was Aden’s father who was responsible for the hit and run she heads straight out to tell Jai. She soon spots him at Jump Rock, where he jumps over the cliff before she can call out to him. Terrified, she races to the edge of the water frantically looking around, eventually seeing Jai bobbing around in the water – he is okay! Her relief turns to confusion as she watches Jai in the water as he throw his hands in the air and shout out to the world ‘invincible’. What is going on with him?
