Will Jai’s recklessness lead to disaster? Will Aden’s secret push Belle away? Kirsty’s struggling to make ends meet.
Extended Summary
After finally telling Belle the truth about his grandfather, Aden is feeling insecure, but in his girlfriend he finds only care and understanding. Feeling guilty for putting Belle through so much drama lately, and wanting to do something nice for her, Aden tries to go all the way. But despite having opened up about his past, he’s still not ready. But it’s okay, Belle feels closer to him than ever now, and she’s happy just holding hands until he’s ready.
Kirsty is having money problems, and struggling to keep paying for Oliver’s childcare. But as tempting as it is to use the money Bartlett gave her, she’s still sceptical about its origin, and doesn’t want to indebt herself to him. When she asks, he admits that the money did come from his own account, but insists it’s only his way of getting the real money to her sooner. At Irene’s suggestion, Kirsty gets some alternative and cheaper childcare, and Miles insists she need not pay rent, Kirsty gives Bartlett back his money. Though he puts on a brave face, he’s clearly very hurt. It seems he holds more than a professional regard for her.
Jai’s attempts to make new friends at school are met with disdain and outright bullying, ending with his school bag thrown onto the roof. When he goes to retrieve it, walking quite calmly along the roof, the school spirals into panic, but unperturbed, he jumps back down with ease. Everyone is furious, but in typical fashion, Jai feels no remorse. He was just getting his bag and having fun, and doesn’t see the problem. He wanted to prove to the bullies that he wasn’t afraid, and that he could do something nobody else could, and since he’s convinced he’s invincible, he couldn’t have been hurt anyway.
Annie is taken aback by the depth of his delusion, and dismayed when he won’t promise not to do it again. When Irene arrives that night, looking for Annie, who’s gone missing, Jai instinctively knows where to look. Going alone, he finds Annie on the school roof, looking far from confident.
