Will Rachel’s growing attachment to Joe become a problem? Angelo risks his job for Belle who is determined to get to the bottom of whatever’s going on.

Extended Summary

Rachel’s attachment to Joe is growing beyond the professional. When Dane doesn’t bring him to an appointment, she goes to his house to find out why. His excuse is that they missed the bus, and he couldn’t afford a taxi, but apparently he still has enough for chips and cigarettes. Rachel immediately takes Joe and heads towards her car. Dane is welcome to come, but she’s taking his son to his appointment either way.

When she learns that Dane hasn’t bought Joe’s medication yet, it seems like he doesn’t understand how serious his son’s condition is. Then he cancels yet another appointment, this time because he’s had a tip off about where to find Joe’s mum Lee, and he’s about to head off to Queensland by coach. Rachel insists Joe’s not up to the trip, and when Dane is unwilling to stay, she suggests Joe stay with she and Tony while Dane is gone, without consulting Tony.

Belle can hardly believe that Angelo has actually arrested her, but far from being cowed, the experience has only strengthened her resolve to get to the bottom of whatever’s going on. When Angelo manages to get her off with a warning she’s grateful, but it’s not enough, she wants him to use his position to track down Murray, who wasn’t at the protest and isn’t answering her calls and apparently is no longer working for the council. Despite his better judgement, Angelo finds her Murray’s address.

When she visits Murray, he’s cagey and secretive. He tells her he retested the soil and it turns out he was wrong all along, so he resigned from his job. Belle can’t believe it. Then Angelo gives her one more piece of information. While investigating Murray, he discovered twenty grand was deposited into his bank account from an unknown party. It looks like Murray was paid off. Belle goes straight to his house to confront him, but finds the door unlocked and the entire house completely empty. Has Murray done a runner, or has something happened to him?
