Ross does what’s best for his family. Will Ruby fall for Mathew’s machinations? Martha faces the downside of her fight against cancer.
Extended Summary
After the kettle incident, Ross has been forced to accept what a burden he is, and will continue to be, for his daughters. He decides the best thing he can do for both them and Morag is to move away and into some sort of assisted living arrangement so that they can get on with their lives.
When he tells them Ruby thinks he’s made the right decision, and while Charlie fights it at first, she’s forced to accept the truth.
And then Morag arrives, she’s thought about Ross’ decision, and the commitment she made to him when they were married, and she can’t abandon him. She’ll take care of him, until the end.
After her second round of chemo, Martha’s going through Hell, and so is Jack, having to watch her suffer, unable to do anything. Seeing just how sick she is, how much pain she’s in, Jack worries something’s wrong, and races off to get Rachel. Unfortunately, Rachel tells him this is just how it is, and that with each round of chemo it’s only going to get worse. All he can do is be there for Martha and wait for her to recover.
Mathew’s still got Ruby’s diary, and from it he learns that she’s always wanted to learn how to surf. Next time he sees her, he tells her he’s thinking about signing up for surfing lessons, and suggests she sign up with him. Under so much stress from her troubles at home, Ruby agrees, at the least, to talk about it over milkshakes. She has a surprisingly nice time, and that night, talking to her online friend Sky, she reveals she’s developing a bit of a crush.
On the computer in the Diner, Mathew, who’s pretending to be Sky, is over the moon. When Jai and Annie enter, he bolts immediately, and they find the chat log on the computer he was using. He’s been caught out!
