Will Belle be able to show her face in public again? Belle and Angelo aren’t the only couple at the end of the line. Jack swallows his pride for Martha.
Extended Summary
Belle is distraught after Angelo’s outburst, full of guilt and humiliation. She’s unwilling even to leave her room, despite Aden’s best efforts to cheer her up. Irene’s lack of sympathy is little help, and Belle feels even worse for disappointing her. When Aden shows up at the Diner to do Belle’s shift, Irene tells him Belle needs to face the consequences of her actions. Aden suggests she should try to show a little more sympathy. Belle feels terrible for what she’s done, and Irene’s attitude won’t help get her out of her doldrums.
Though he wishes Martha didn’t have to go alone, Jack can understand why she’d want to get away from town for a while, and wants to do everything he can to support her. Rachel suggests a cancer retreat that sounds perfect, but it’s pricey. After paying so many medical bills, they just can’t afford it, but Jack doesn’t want to worry Martha. Unfortunately, neither Tony nor Alf have the money to loan him. He’s almost out of options when Roman offers to lend the money. He heard about the situation from Alf, and wants to do whatever he can for Martha. Though it’s a big hit to his pride, especially given their history, Jack gratefully accepts the money, Martha’s more important than his ego. And off she goes.
Charlie feels absolutely awful for Angelo. For her it’s all completely black and white, Belle betrayed him and deserves no sympathy. So she’s taken aback when Roman refuses to condemn either Aden or Belle. When she finds out he knew what was going on and did nothing, she’s flabbergasted. Feeling bad afterwards, Charlie shows up at Roman’s with a bottle of wine, hoping to make it up to him. She wasn’t expecting to see Aden and Belle, but Nicole invited them over for a special dinner to make them feel better.
Charlie is asked to join them but she can’t swallow her opinions and she can only hold back for so long, and finally her barbed tongue sends them home. Roman’s angry at her for ruining a pleasant night, and she too leaves. When she’s gone, Natalie asks what Roman’s doing with Charlie, it’s obvious that she’s crazy about him, but he’s only going through the motions. She’s hit the nail on the head, but Roman doesn’t want to face it just yet, and gives her till morning to get out of his house. That’s not the only shock he has in store. When Charlie comes back to apologise, he breaks up with her.
