Extended Summary

Melody’s been spending a lot of time with Mathew, against her friends’ better judgement, and he’s having a very negative influence on her. She’s sneaking out at night, drinking and talking back to teachers at school, and she’s enjoying it. Her friends want to help, but Nicole thinks they need to let her stand on her own two feet and learn from her mistakes. Then she hears that Karl, one of the boys doing community service with Aden, is having a party, and Melody’s going. Despite her own advice to Jai and Ruby, Nicole realises that sometimes everybody needs protection. When she gets to the party Mathew’s nowhere to be seen, Melody’s drunk, and Karl’s trying to kiss her. Nicole pushes him away and takes Melody home.

Belle’s ready to go home from hospital, after a final round of questioning from police. But when Fitzgerald questions her, she focuses on the fact that Belle didn’t actually see Angelo and Belle can’t believe it, to her it seems the police are trying to cover it up and protect their own. When it’s finally time to go home, she doesn’t say anything in the car, and when she arrives, she just wants to curl up in her bed.

Bridget has booked a flight to Darwin for the weekend and made a copy of Leah’s driving licence. It looks like she’s going to chuck a runner. When Alf starts getting enquiries from people who’ve paid for advertisements on his boats, wondering why they haven’t appeared, Bridget assures him she’ll take care of it. But he’s getting suspicious, and decides to call the sign writers themselves.

They don’t know what he’s talking about, Bridget has never even spoken to them, she’s just pocketed the money. Outraged by Bridget’s subterfuge, Alf confronts her.
