A bit of childish fun leads to serious danger. Charlie just won’t be helped. Can Annie escape in time?
Extended Summary
Charlie’s still in a bad way after her break up with Roman, burying herself in work and alcohol. Rachel and Leah decide she could do with some support, but Charlie sees their pity as an affront, and disperses with them both rudely. When she bumps into Roman at the Diner she’s surprised that he’s working. Roman wonders if she’s taking things a bit far, checking his roster in order to avoid him. Charlie points out it’s only been a week, of course she’s still hurt, anyone but him would be. Then she gets the call from Jai about Annie, and she’s glad for the distraction.
It’s the day of the Nipper Carnival, and VJ is being a nightmare. First he complains about his uniform, then he wants to go with Miles, then he claims the other kids are cheating. It’s all Leah can do to stay sane, and when Colleen offers to take him home for lunch, Leah readily agrees. But on the way Colleen and VJ come across Jai and Annie, going for a walk. VJ wants to join them, but Colleen refuses. Unperturbed, as soon as Colleen’s back is turned, VJ races off on his bike after the young couple.
VJ has found a cool looking storm drain, and he goes inside to explore. Annie and Jai are on their way back and they spot VJ’s bike on the ground, they call out to VJ and hear a faint reply from deep within the network of drains. They start the search with the clock ticking and the storm getting worse, they decide to split up to look for VJ.
After a while, Jai finds him, but when he calls to Annie, there’s no response. As the storm gets stronger, VJ’s afraid of being left alone, and Jai realises it’s time to call for help. Miles soon arrives, and Jai’s ready to race back inside and look for Annie, but Miles tells him to stay with VJ and call 000, before going in instead. But he has no luck, and after trying his best, emerges alone.
Charlie and another officer arrive with a map of the system, and telling Jai and Miles to wait where they are, race off to another entrance most of the tunnels lead to. All the while, the storm is getting worse, and inside, Annie’s terror rises as she hears another roll of thunder, but then she sees a flash of light from the lightning and realises she must be near an exit. She rushes towards it, full of relief, until she finds it barred by a grill. Worse, she’s heard another sound: rushing water, and it’s coming towards her.
