Extended Summary
Belle is struggling in rehab. With her world now fallen apart around her, she doesn’t even have the energy to think about starting to pick up the pieces. She receives a text from Annie asking if she can come to visit her after school. Annie and Geoff are disheartened to receive a reply simply saying ‘don’t come’. Geoff is quite hurt by the terse statement but Annie sees through to the pain and devastation behind it. When they arrive home from school they are shocked to find that Pippa has arrived to take care of them. She immediately curbs their teenage ways, sending them off to do a spot of housework.
Trey and his stepfather John are being interviewed by the department about the incident with Miles. Trey claims that when arriving at the house, Miles immediately started shouting at him and tackled him to the ground, dislocating his shoulder. Trey denies being provoking him and simply claims that Miles must have been jealous. John is also quick to point out that Trey has just been attacked by Miles’ foster son Jai. When it comes to Miles’ interview, he tries to explain what really happened, but he appears to be digging himself into a bigger hole. Kirsty on the other hand is very defensive and her attitude annoys the Inspector and Bartlett. With their interviews leaving a lot to be desired, Miles and Kirsty are not expecting a good outcome from the Department of Education re Trey’s accusation that Miles assaulted him. The Inspector tells them they will have an answer shortly but the bottom line is, Miles dislocated a students shoulder and that will be very hard to overlook.
Concerned over how Geoff and Annie are coping with Belle’s situation, Pippa asks if they would like to talk about it. Geoff doesn’t, but Annie voices her concern for Belle to Pippa, along with her theory that Geoff blames himself for Belle’s overdose at the wedding. Pippa decides to pay Belle a visit. Pippa tells Belle that now is the time she needs her friends the most. She expresses how much Annie needs Belle. Belle is withdrawn, and feels she’s made such a huge mistake that nothing else matters. Pippa soothes her with the notion that what’s important is how Belle gets herself out of her mess. Meanwhile, Aden decides to drop in and see Belle. He is haunted by her gaunt appearance (unseen by Belle who is talking to Pippa) and rushes out, unable to face her. With Pippa’s words ringing in her ears, Belle accepts a visit from Annie and Geoff and it’s clear that all is forgiven.
Jai has done some digging and found an old school photo of Trey on Facebook. It’s not the fit Trey we know, but a very obese young boy. Whilst he’s printing it out in the Diner, Miles discovers the photo and takes it from Jai. He confronts a speechless Trey with it, and suggests they talk. Trey opens up about this past. The ridicule and torment he received growing up. When John met his mum, he helped Trey get fit and lose weight. Trey just wanted to change, he wanted John to be proud of him, he thought that by having lots of mates it would mean he’d been successful. So he lied in order to get those mates. Miles tells him that despite his physical appearance he hasn’t changed, he needs to own up and be truthful – start changing from the inside out. That night Pippa invites Miles, Kirsty and Jai over for dinner with her and the kids at the Beach House. Miles apologises for not coming to see her sooner, and Pippa passes on a kiss from Sally, who she says is missing the bay like crazy. Miles then receives a phone call from Bartlett. Trey has changed his story, and he will be dropping the complaints. The nightmare is finally over.
That evening, a letter is dropped off to Belle; it’s from Aden. Fearing it’s contents but desperate for any kind of interaction with Aden, Belle opens it…and is crushed. Aden can’t be there for her, his past makes it impossible for him to be the strength that she needs…it’s over…
