Extended Summary
Xavier is chatting to Martha about Charlie and her relationship with Joey when suddenly Charlie and Hugo emerge out of Hugo’s bedroom, having spent the night together. Hugo tells Xavier the good news that he and Brendan are in the clear for Roman’s accident. Charlie calls in at work where Hogan also has good news – Joey’s version of events match up with Charlie’s regarding the start of their relationship, so she is in the clear. However she should expect to receive a rap on the knuckles for moving Joey in when she was part of an ongoing investigation. He also explains that she has the full support of everyone at work.
Roman comes home from the hospital and it’s clear to everyone that he’s determined to be as independent as possible. After hearing there’s no food in the house, Roman says that he wants everything to be back to normal and so they’ll be eating healthily. Seeing her dad like this upsets Nicole, and she breaks down whilst making a shopping list. Nicole talks to Roman about his appointment with the counsellor, which he explains he is cancelling. Nicole questions him on this and he snaps at her, stating that he knows what trauma can do, having been in the army, and the cause of his blindness is from being hit in the temple.
Aden arrives home with Martha, having bumped into her at the diner. During her visit, she sees for herself that Roman is snapping at both Nicole and Aden. Nicole excuses herself and explains to Aden that she is scared and feels helpless, she’s so glad that Aden is there with her as she couldn’t cope on her own. Meanwhile Roman is in the kitchen with Martha, and snaps at her when she too mentions the counselling. When he knocks a glass of the bench, the sound triggers a flashback to the accident, and he tears into Aden and Nicole for not putting things back where they’re supposed to be. With Aden now broken up with Belle, he decides not to tell Roman.
When Charlie meets up with Joey after receiving the good news, she quickly realises that she can’t be honest and tell Joey that she slept with Hugo. Meanwhile, Martha is also asking Hugo about spending the night with Charlie. The conversation is interrupted by Charlie phoning Hugo. They meet up in the diner and Charlie explains that it should never have happened and she wants to forget about it. They agree to keep it a secret. Hugo in turn asks both Martha and Xavier to keep it secret.
At school Xavier tells a shocked Ruby that Hugo spent the night with Charlie and when Ruby and Xavier arrive home to see Charlie and Joey light heartedly washing the car, it’s clear they are still together. Ruby confronts Charlie about the Hugo issue, wondering how Charlie could cheat on Joey. Charlie knows Ruby is right but makes her sister promise to keep what happened with Hugo a secret.
Aden is lying on the bed when Nicole joins him. Both lonely and being on the receiving end of Roman’s anger, they start swapping miseries about respective partners. Caught up in a moment of intimacy, they wind up having sex.
The next thing they know they are lying in bed, unable to believe what they’ve just done. Meanwhile Roman downstairs wakes up from a nightmare. He realises he shouldn’t be taking his anger out on Nicole and Aden and goes to Aden’s room to apologise for his behaviour. Being unable to see Nicole, he leaves, and Aden and Nicole are stunned – that was close!
