Extended Summary
Roman has kicked Aden out, and despite Nicole’s protests, Aden leaves without a fuss. The following morning, Roman fobs Miles off when he phones him – Miles is becoming increasingly concerned about Roman. He goes to visit him and finds out what happened between Aden and Nicole, and the subsequent consequences. Miles thinks he over reacted in kicking Aden out, and that everybody around him is suffering due to his moodiness and self centeredness. Miles thinks Roman isn’t dealing with his fundamental problems. Later, he finds out from Ruby and Jai that Aden is down on the beach – when he learns that Aden has spent the night there, he offers him a van to stay in until he sorts things out. Aden is happy to take up the offer. Miles goes back to see Roman to tell him about Aden’s situation and try to make him see that he needs to start working through his problems, but Roman remains resistant, and it seems no one can help him through this.
Nicole learns where Aden is staying and is relieved – he hadn’t been taking her calls. Nicole pays Aden a visit, thinking that now they don’t live together under Roman’s roof they’ll be able to kick up their relationship a notch. But Aden isn’t interested – at least not at the moment. He’s full of regret at having slept with her, and believes they’ve stuffed their close friendship in the process. Nicole leaves Aden alone as he requests her to do, and heads off, dejected, as she seems to have not only lost a lover, but a good mate too.
Hugo and Xavier have started to clash over the way Hugo handles Brendan. Hugo believes that just because Brendan has a disability doesn’t mean that he can’t be taught boundaries of responsibility. Xavier and Martha don’t think the trauma that such lessons cause Brendan, are worth the effort, but Hugo persists. With Xavier at school, Hugo tries to take a stick away from Brendan, but this results in Brendan coming extremely defensive and the situation is only alleviated by Tony ‘s arrival. Martha begins to see that Hugo’s methods are becoming dangerous as Brendan can become very difficult to handle. Later on, Brendan is throwing food on the floor, and Martha tells Hugo it doesn’t matter – but Hugo is persistant in trying to discipline him, leading to Martha clearing the food up herself to avoid the situation spiralling out of control. Hugo doesn’t react well to her interferance and is rude to her. Martha retaliates by pointing out that everyone is just trying to help and make the situation easier.
As Ruby and Jai sign up to become volunteers at the surf carnival, Xavier voices his concerns about Hugo to them – and he is right to be worried. Brendan has got hold of the stick again and although Hugo tries a softer approach, his temper gets the better of him. The struggle for the stick is heated and physical, and results in Brendan being hit in the face. Scene cut from Episode:
Then, armed with Rachel’s advice, Miles goes in harder. He tries to convince Roman that his main problem is that he won’t confront the fact that he’s blind, and the fears that go with it, and that he needs to do that so that he can accept help.
