Extended Summary
It’s been a tough few days for Aden. With Belle in rehab, he’s missing her terribly and on top of his guilt for sleeping with Nicole, living in a van on his own is only driving home how lost he feels since Roman threw him out. When Kirsty invites Aden to dinner, and says to bring Nicole, it only adds to his angst and he’s desperate to set the record straight, especially with Belle.
Meanwhile, in rehab, Belle tells Liam that her counsellor has said that she’s ready to go home. Belle, however, isn’t sure if she’s up to it, in spite of Liam’s attempts to convince her otherwise. Back in the Bay, Aden sees Russal (previously one of Belle’s drug suppliers) being let off by the cops and his despair over Belle manifests as anger. Charlie explains that there’s nothing they can pin on him at the moment, and all they can do is keep an eye on him. Aden decides that if the cops aren’t going to do anything, he will. So when he sees Russal near the beach side swapping a foil for cash, his anger boils over. In spite of Alf’s protests, Aden smashes Russal against the ground, disrupting the deal just as the police arrive (Alf had already called them), and ultimately, both Russal and his buyer make an escape. Aware of what’s fuelling Aden’s anger, Charlie points out that even if Aden took every drug dealer off the streets himself, he can’t protect Belle forever. Once she gets out of rehab, she’ll have to deal with the world – good and bad – on her own. Later, Charlie reports that they did end up catching Russal who will be doing a stint in jail. Armed with this information, Aden visits Belle in the Clinic, and apologises again about sleeping with Nicole, swearing that they aren’t together. He also tells her that Russal was busted – all of which helps Belle to make the decision to leave the Clinic.
Roman has finally been persuaded by Miles to see a counsellor, who is looking for a psychological reason behind Roman’s blindness. Roman, however, stubbornly maintains there is no deep-seeded trauma or repressed memory from his past to explain it – it’s the result of the accident, that’s it. Miles is disappointed that the counsellor was unable to help Roman, and suggests he might want to at least work things out with the Aden. Roman, however, tells Miles in no uncertain terms, that he doesn’t need his help or advice. Leah is also having trouble getting through to Roman and she discusses with Miles how they might be able to snap him out of his funk. Miles suggests a visit from VJ might help and off the back of this, Leah manages to bulldoze Roman into accepting a dinner invitation with Miles and Kirsty. But in spite of the best efforts of his friends, Roman remains snappish and distant. So much so, that Kirsty is forced to speak directly. She tells Roman that his problems are no excuse for throwing Aden out of the house (even if Aden did make a mistake by sleeping with Nicole), nor are they an excuse for pushing his mates away. And if he keeps this up, he’ll soon be left with no friends at all. Having made her point, Kirsty heads out, leaving Roman rattled by her words. Something which is noted by Leah, who can’t help wondering just what, is pulling Roman further and further away from the people who care about him.
Geoff continues to be confused and moody since things fell apart with Claudia. So much so, that it’s starting to take its toll on the people around him, particularly Annie. Claudia catches up with Geoff at school where she explains she just wants to talk to him, but he is quick to make his excuses. She explains that she will be in the Diner later, but when Geoff decides to meet her, he learns he’s just missed her. When they finally get together, Geoff tells Claudia he’s not going to let guilt (over sleeping with her) mess him up again, the way it did when he was with Nicole. Claudia assures him if anyone’s guilty it’s her – but she’s definitely not with Lachie any more, whether Geoff wants to be with her or not. And clearly he does, as the young couple kiss, the future suddenly looking bright.
The next day, to make up for Roman’s lack of attention, Miles takes VJ down to the beach where the pair make a gruesome discovery – a dismembered hand!
Scenes cut from Episode:
Meanwhile, in rehab, Belle’s counsellor suggests she’s been making good progress. She’s been drug free for nearly a month – perhaps it’s time to think about facing the ‘outside’ world again.
Finally, Ruby’s had enough. She tells Geoff that if being with Claudia is what makes him happy, then he just needs to go for it.
