Extended Summary
As Roman continues to be haunted by his recurring nightmare, Leah is doing her best to keep VJ distracted from his own recent troubles, with a game of soccer on the beach. But when she realises that in the wake of finding the severed hand, VJ’s frightened to go near the water, she knows she can’t let it go on any longer. An unsuccessful session with the hospital counsellor leaves Leah at a loss as to how she can help VJ, and Miles suggests she approach Roman – he would’ve had training in the SAS to deal with trauma, and VJ already trusts him. Who knows, maybe a chat might do them both some good?
Reluctantly, Roman agrees to talk to VJ, and after relating some of his own scary war experiences, VJ begins to open up. It’s a breakthrough, and Leah couldn’t be more relieved when she returns to pick her son up. Obviously getting things off his chest really worked, and taking this on, Roman realises he needs to do a bit of the same. With a new-found determination, Roman makes a call to Gardy – the name he calls out in his nightmare. Who is Gardy and what key does he hold to helping Roman?
Belle returns from rehab, nervous to be back in the ‘outside’ world once again – which isn’t helped by running into Angelo – but grateful for the support of her friends. Annie wonders whether there’s any chance Belle and Aden might get back together, but Belle insists she can’t even think about that right now. However, when Aden walks in, her heart starts to race and it’s clear the chemistry between these two is very much alive and kicking. Left to themselves, Aden reveals that Belle’s the only one for him, and he wants to be there for her. But while Belle feels the same, she needs to know – is there anything still between him and Nicole? Aden adamantly assures her there isn’t. It was a mistake that just made him realise how much he wants to be with Belle.
As the pair walk on the beach, a photographer appears, harassing Belle for a photo because of her relationship with Liam Murphy. Belle insists they’re just friends, but when the photographer doesn’t take no for an answer, a protective Aden grabs the guy’s camera and throws it into the surf then leads Belle away. Belle is shocked – but impressed – and they move off looking every bit the happy, rebellious couple they once were. However, the moment is interrupted by the arrival of Liam who has also checked himself out of rehab. He needs Belle’s help to sort some things out. With an apologetic look to Aden, Belle moves off to a private corner with Liam, leaving Aden wondering if the connection between them is deeper than he realised. As the pair speak, a photographer takes pictures from a distance.
As news of Hugo’s shark attack is splashed across the front page of The Coastal News, Alf worries about it’s affect on local business. But while Kirsty and Miles are sure it will all blow over in a couple of days, their optimism is soon dashed, as the Caravan Park is hit with a multitude of cancellations. And then later, Alf reveals even worse news – the Winter Surf Carnival has been cancelled. The organisers didn’t want to take the risk, which means bookings are going to slump even more. Kirsty is grim as she hopes that Angelo’s investigation into the shark attack comes up with something positive. Alf however, doesn’t think it’s likely. Angelo’s got bigger things to deal with – apparently there’s someone lost at sea. Angelo and his team have located the missing boat, but as they pull alongside, gun shots ring out., and one of the officers is hit. Angelo boards the drifting vessel, but pulls up in shock when he realises the terrified and distraught woman shooting at them…is Irene!
