Extended Summary
Martha breaks apart from Hugo after their passionate kiss. She is drawn back to reality, feeling that what they’re doing is unacceptable – especially considering its Jack’s birthday. Martha hurries out of the house – this is not a reality she can face right now. The next day, Hugo goes to visit her to discuss the kiss. It certainly wasn’t a one sided affair and he wants to know how she feels about it. Martha opens up and explains that the whole reason she moved out to the farm was because she had started to develop feelings for Hugo. But she strongly feels like she’s betraying Jack’s memory. And on that note, Martha insists that they can’t let this happen again. But when the fuse box blows and there’s no power throughout the farm house, it seems Martha has no choice but to accept Hugo’s invitation for dinner. Later that day, with Hugo strongly on Martha’s mind she makes the last minute decision to cancel dinner. She sees no way she can hold back her feelings and would prefer to stay away from him. This confuses Hugo even more as he wonders if she has gone back to denying their attraction.
Preparations are under way for the making of Jai’s short film for the Summer Bay Film Festival. Jai seeks Annie’s help with the film hoping she’ll appear in it with him, but Annie quickly realises that she has to kiss Jai in the film. Annie is outraged but Jai thinks it’s all quite innocent while Annie insists he find someone else to do the kissing scene. Jai asks Ruby and Xavier to do it and they’re happy to oblige and oblige and oblige. Ruby is still deciding what she is going to do for her sweet sixteenth. Xavier asks Ruby what she wants for her birthday; he wants to give her something special. Ruby thinks on this for a moment and then it becomes clear what she wants – I want you, she says. Ruby asks Xavier if he will make love to her on her birthday, something which Xavier seems quite happy to give her.
Trey and Nicole continue to see each other even though Trey feels like Kirsty and Miles don’t approve – Kirsty mistakenly forgets to pass on a message to Nicole but Nicole and Trey suspect it wasn’t an accident. And he’s right as Miles and Kirsty wish they weren’t seeing so much of Trey at their house now that Nicole is living there. They hope to lay down a few new rules with Nicole because they feel like she is testing the boundaries. Once Nicole is back home, Miles explains to her that it’s unfair if Trey comes and goes as he pleases. But Nicole takes this as Trey being taken away from her, and after losing her dad it’s the last thing she wants. With Nicole defiant this seems like a no win situation. With defiance, Nicole leads a hesitant Trey through her bedroom window. It’s clear they are planning to spend the night together in secret. When morning breaks, and Kirsty comes looking for Nicole she gets a huge shock, discovering Trey in bed with her. They are busted.
Irene returns from an AA meeting and tries to talk to Annie, but she is still off with Irene, unable to forget her behaviour last week. Later at the Diner, Irene offers Annie a lift home, but she quickly takes off with Jai to avoid her. Irene talks to Alf about whether she should attend Lou’s funeral and Alf poses the question, would Lou want Irene at the funeral tomorrow? Irene knows the answer is yes, which leaves Irene wondering whether to attend or not.
As Miles and Kirsty discuss Rachel’s close call, he can’t help but sound clucky which she picks up on. Talk soon turns to whether Kirsty would be ready to have another baby, this time, with him. Kirsty doesn’t know what to think but its clear this is an out of the blue request from Miles. With Oliver being more demanding than usual, Miles offers to help Kirsty out with him on a few occasions but she soon snaps back, this is proof that them having just one child is more than enough.
