Extended Summary

Xavier is still searching for a good place to hide the money Hugo left him, he’s settled on one of the lockers at the Gym – he figures no one will suspect anything there. Boxing with Tony, Xavier is getting into sparring. Still desperate to believe Hugo is alive, he goes back to the battery to wait for him. He’s disappointed when no one shows, and his problems are compounded when he returns home and is forced to have dinner with John and Gina. After making polite conversation during the meal, Xavier excuses himself and heads out. This disappoints Gina, but John is quick to reassure her – it’s a start.

Hugo has disappeared from Witness Protection and Angelo is trying to work out where he has gone to. Alf thinks he may have come to the bay to be with Martha, or see Xavier or Gina. Worried about Xavier’s constant search for Hugo, Angelo believes he may have returned. When Martha overhears them talking, they are quick to cover, but she’s left wondering if they’re not telling her something. Later on Alf comes close to telling her the truth about Hugo, but thinks better of it and diverts the conversation. Meanwhile Angelo is staking out the battery and sees someone approaching – he gives chase and shouts out Hugo’s name, but he loses them in the dark.

Colleen is badgering Marilyn about the identity of the graffiti artist. Marilyn tells her that the important thing is that it won’t be happening again, but Colleen isn’t satisfied – she wants to know who did it and wants them punished. Marilyn is glad when Rachel interrupts the conversation and they head off to the caravan park, Marilyn wanting to have a chat with Rachel about some personal issues anyway. As they reach the house Rachel, having been told about Marilyn’s current situation, tells her how sorry she is. She asks Marilyn how she is now, and she states that she feels fighting fit, her latest scans having shown the all-clear.

Miles is still seeing Rabbit, despite having convinced everyone she’s gone away. Rachel checks on him, and is happy with his progress. But when Marilyn sees him having a conversation with Rabbit, overhearing that he’s stopped taking his medication, she questions him. He tells her the truth and Marilyn is understanding and sympathetic. Marilyn tells him that he needs to move forward with his life, and things don’t get better on their own – she knows all too well how it feels to be weighed down by painful memories and grief. Marilyn then reveals the real reason she returned to the Bay. She is dying, and has less than a year to live.
