Extended Summary
Ruby’s nerves are starting to get the better of her, and it is clear that she is apprehensive about singing alone onstage. When she takes to the stage to sing, she has an attack of stage fright until Liam, who has been watching in the wings, makes his way on stage with his guitar, joining her. Giving her the support she needs, she sings with confidence and gives a great performance.
Whilst Annie and Romeo throw themselves into their parts in an effort to forget their own situation, the spectre of Annie’s decision hangs over them. When it gets to an emotional scene in the play, where Romeo in character, asks Annie’s character if they shall ever meet again, Annie gets upset and she’s looking at Romeo as she sheds a tear. At the end, Romeo finally asks Annie – are you going back to Japan? She says yes, and I leave tomorrow morning. They both agree the perfect romance has ended in perfect tragedy – just like the Shakespeare play they were performing. The following morning, Annie sets off with Irene, and is disappointed that Romeo hasn’t been in contact. As they drive off, Romeo appears and starts calling after the car. It looks like he’s too late, but Annie spots him and the pair talk. Romeo tells her he’s going to miss her for the rest of his life and she asks him his greatest secret – his real name. He whispers it in her ear before a final goodbye as Annie departs.
Alf and Irene get concerned about Miles when he reacts badly to someone attempting to sit in the chair next to him, insisting that it’s saved. Paranoid about what is happening to him, he leaves the play. He arrives home to discover Rabbit has set up the chess set. When Rabbit asks Miles for a game of chess, he wonders again if she’s real – how can he play a game with someone who doesn’t exists? Everything has gone haywire since she came into his life. In a heated moment Miles asks Rabbit to leave him alone – and with that, Rabbit is gone. Miles soon realises the error he’s made and he goes calling out for Rabbit. Elijah and Leah are also concerned, and Leah tries to coax Elijah into telling her what’s wrong, but Elijah is staunch about the fact he’s been told in confidence. After waking from a dream, Miles goes to Leah’s house to talk to Elijah and Leah – he announces that Rabbit sometimes tells him the future. He then warns them both that they have to stay away from cows or horses, which is what Rabbit has told him. Rabbit’s premonitions have a habit of coming true. Look out for school kids as well, says Miles.
Scenes cut from Episode:
Ruby is still nervous about the play and realises her nerves are because she will be performing on stage, alone. With Ruby rushing to the bathroom with nerves, Liam asks Xavier how she is but Annie is still in the bathroom with her – will Ruby go on stage at all? Xavier begs Liam to tell Ruby if he thinks she’s not ready to sing in front of an audience. Don’t let her make a fool of herself. Liam says he won’t. Ruby has come out of the bathroom and decided to go on stage and is dealing with her nerves as she stands backstage.
Romeo tells Annie she looks gorgeous, just before she’s about to go on and perform.
Elijah tells Leah that Miles has been suspended. Leah asks why, which is when Elijah starts to tell her all about Rabbit.
