Extended Summary
Romeo is still digesting the news that his mother, Jill, has profited from her husbands’ death while he and his sister Mink have been paying the price. Romeo asks his mum if she ever considered using the inheritance to get Mink out of juvenile detention. Or help Romeo in some way? Romeo downloads to Alf – he wishes his mum would stop flirting and start taking some responsibility for her actions.
Xavier and Gina feel the pressure of keeping Hugo’s secret, knowing that he is hiding out at Martha’s farm. Meanwhile, Martha and Hugo are enjoying the time they have together. Gina asks Xavier to get Ruby to lie and say she knows nothing about it – especially if Charlie asks. Ruby promises to keep it to herself, and gets to practice when John Palmer asks if they’d heard anything about Hugo. John doesn’t want to see Gina have to cope with any more troubles, so offers Xavier a truce – but Xavier isn’t interested.
Unaware of Hugo’s reappearance into the Bay, Rachel steps in with her two cents worth – she hopes Hugo’s okay but she doesn’t think he should return to the Bay. If he did, he could have some dangerous people following him, which means putting people he loves in danger.
Jill continues her flirtation with John, asking him out to lunch, and doesn’t seem to mind that John is seeing Gina. Gina catches them in the flirtatious exchange. John chases after her, pleading for Gina to understand, but Gina isn’t interested in hearing it at the moment. Romeo explains the situation to Xavier – his mother was cracking onto John Palmer. Xavier is thrilled – this could mean the end of Gina and John’s relationship.
Jill soon reveals why she is in the Bay and hands over fifty thousand dollars to Romeo. She hopes this will help him forgive her as she wants to be a proper mother to Romeo and Mink. Romeo is astounded – this certainly doesn’t make up for anything. Jill isn’t going to be buying Romeo’s love anytime soon. Romeo heads to the bar and gives Jill the cheque back, having ripped it up. Feeling like she was overreacting, Gina also goes into the Surf Club to apologise to John. Jill comes striding up to John and after a brief chat, plants a kiss on John’s lips, just as Gina walks in leaving her astounded.
Liam interrupts a romantic moment between Xavier and Ruby to ask Ruby if she wants to work on a duet. Ruby is thrilled and Xavier is a little put out. Ruby loves the song Liam has written and Liam suggests they cut together a demo – they could even send it off to someone in the business. Xavier’s concern for Liam and Ruby’s relationship is growing.
