Extended Summary
Miles is stunned to learn that Shandi is John Palmer’s daughter. She tells him that John doesn’t know yet – she’s his illegitimate daughter. Miles tells her to be careful how she handles it given that he’s just had a heart attack. She wants to know all about John–what kind of man is he? Miles is hesitant, given his opinions on John, but this only makes her more interested. Miles tries to covertly ask Alf if John’s attitude to life has changed since the heart attack. Alf realises something is up, but Shandi interrupts them before Miles can tell him what’s happened. Miles ends up confiding in Leah who tells him that he just needs to be open and honest about the situation – they’re all grown ups. However upon seeing John, Miles ducks out of the Diner. After Shandi meets John, Miles helps to soothe her nerves, keeping her company and showing her the town, but all the while, becoming more interested in her, and with no idea how to tell John of this new relationship – despite her being keen to point out that she doesn’t do the traditional boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Alf is quick to remind Miles that John Palmer won’t necessarily be thrilled about whatever it is the pair are embarking on.
John is ready to propose to Gina, he wants to take her out for a fancy dinner, but given his recent heart attack, she’s not so sure that’s a good idea. But he convinces her it is, it’ll be a celebration of life. April teases Xavier over John’s proposal, and as much as he doesn’t like the idea of marriage, he admits that his Mum loves John. Gina is curious about what the big dinner is all about, but before John spills the beans, Shandi arrives and tells John that she is his daughter. The news shocks them all, but John accepts that Shandi is his daughter. She apologises for springing it on him, but he doesn’t mind. Shandi and John talk, but he’s not sure exactly what she wants from him. She insists it’s to get to know him, but he’s not completely convinced. Later, Gina asks April and Xavier for dress advice, and April realises that the big dinner must be all about a proposal. Later on, John asks Gina if she minds the dinner being cancelled, he’s had a big day – it seems the proposal is off for the time being.
Charlie is worried about Angelo’s confession he was tempted by Shandi on their trip back to the Bay. She thinks it’s a sign of bigger problems in their relationship, but Leah doesn’t think it’s that big a deal–he did tell her. But if Charlie is so worried she should just talk to Angelo – Charlie definitely doesn’t feel up that at the moment though. Eventually, Charlie plucks up the courage to talk to Angelo, and he tells her that he’s never felt secure about their relationship because of her commitment issues. She is left with food for thought, and Angelo thinks he’s pushed her away for good. She talks to Leah at the Diner later on, and seems to have reached a momentous decision. When Angelo goes to see her, he thinks she’s going to break up with him. But she tells him she wants him to move in with her – Angelo is stunned. He is confused by her motives, given that it’s come off the back his admission. However, she convinces him she feels genuine about it and they are both left happy at the prospect of their new life together.
