Extended Summary
Mitzy is buried and Marilyn struggles with her death, unable to comprehend the way Mitzy’s family has abandoned her. Sid, Miles and the family try to be there for her, but she is at a loss, not sure what to do with herself, or how to feel. Sid wants to help, but there’s nothing he can do. She just wants to be alone and the only person she wants to talk to isn’t there anymore. Sid blames himself – maybe he’s the wrong person to be there with her? But Alf tells him he’s the one Marilyn wants here. She just needs time. When he finds her on the beach later, she confides in him that Mitzy’s death has left her lost.
At the cemetery, Alf sees Penn in the distance at a grave. When Penn has gone, Alf goes over to the grave and discovers it’s Tulips. Alf confronts Penn in the Surf Club, telling him that he’s not afraid of him, and that he should just leave town, because in the end he’s just a scared little boy. If he wants a fight, he’s not going to get one – Penn might as well just go. Penn warns him that if he really knew what he was like, the last thing he’d be doing is making threats.
Dex goes to the pet shop to talk to Adrian and initially she doesn’t want to know. Dex apologises to Adrian for leaving her on their date and tells her about Mitzy. They hang out all afternoon, and reconnect. He tells her all about his nerves on their date and she forgives him. She tells him about her parents, they died when she was young, and the share their experiences of death. Dexter realises why Adrian works in a pet shop and she is impressed at how well he’s managed to analyse her. She reveals that she has worked him out too, she knows him pretty well and why he acts the way he does. Dex is taken aback, never expecting someone to know him so well – he is flustered and walks out on her again.
Nicole helps Ruby pack up their house, but Ruby is harassing Charlie to take her out for a manual driving lesson. She has her L’s but needs time behind the wheel. Charlie is wary–she didn’t get along well with her Dad when he tried to teach her and she’s worried. But Ruby assures her it’ll be fine. They go for a drive, Charlie tries to remain calm, but this only frustrates Ruby more as she struggles to get a grip on driving a manual. Ruby frustration runs deeper than the manual gearbox – she is worried that everything will change now that Angelo is moving in, but Charlie assures her it won’t. It’s only when Charlie resorts to being more angry and strict, does Ruby get a handle on the manual.
