Extended Summary
Indi is still struggling with the fact she opened and read the letter Annie sent Romeo. She confesses her actions in Sid, who is disappointed and thinks Indi should be honest with Romeo about what she’s done. Indi worries Romeo will never talk to her again, but Sid presses the importance of honesty in relationships. Meanwhile, Romeo is confused as to why Indi is keeping her distance. He suspects it may have something to do with the letter and when Indi finally confesses he’s furious – especially when Indi suggests that his anger is only because he still has feelings for Annie. Nicole and Miles try to counter his anger, explaining that Indi probably only read the letter out of insecurity, and Romeo should take a soft approach and talk to her about why she felt this way. At the farmhouse later that night, Indi confesses to Sid that she thinks she’s lost Romeo for good.
In Penn’s hotel room, Charlie establishes that Penn probably went somewhere without wanting to, given that his license was left behind – and until they have a body, treating it as a murder investigation is premature. The blood in Penn’s hotel room is matched to Penn’s blood type. With very little to go on, the police investigation is moving slowly, but Charlie still calls in reinforcements from the city.
Angelo is unimpressed when Charlie tells him that he’ll be seen as a suspect in the investigation. Later at the station, Charlie and Alf are having an informal chat about the last time he saw Penn. Alf is rattled – the last time he had an ‘informal chat’ he was charged with assaulting Penn. Charlie assures him it’s just a routine chat and Angelo will have to make a statement too, but Alf is still feeling very uneasy. Charlie is blunt – if Penn turns up dead, he’s going to have to face much tougher cops than her, so it’s in his best interests to co-operate. Charlie receives a phone call at the station – one that she’s clearly not happy about.Later that night as he debriefs at Summer Bay House, everyone is there to show their support, but Miles does worry, that given the past, Alf may well be the number one suspect if Penn is found dead.
The truth about Mitzy’s prediction regarding Marilyn’s end date is weighing on Sid heavily. When Sid finds himself advising Indi on honesty in relationships he’s forced to take a good hard look at his own. Marilyn goes over to Sid’s for lunch, and she thanks him for being a rock since Mitzy’s death. He asks how the grieving process is going, and Marilyn tells him she has made her peace with the fact Mitzy lied. And because of that, she doesn’t want anymore secrets in their relationship. Sid almost confesses what Mitzy told him, but is unable to. Sid tries again later but Marilyn’s phone interupts – it’s Miles, telling her about Alf. The moment for confession has been lost.
Ruby is excited to be starting driving lessons, but is less than enthused about spending her afternoons in a car with a nerdy instructor. Before her first lesson, Ruby and Nicole head to the Diner, where Colleen shares her worries about Penn going missing, coupled with the fact that Irene told her that Will has gone walkabout – but Ruby is more concerned with her order, and not allowing Nicole to get upset with mentions of Penn. She’s pleasantly surprised when she runs into a hot young guy named Alex there, who just happens to be her instructor. The lesson goes well and it’s clear Ruby is very interested in her teacher. They banter, and Ruby asks him if he wants to go for a coffee, but he tells her he has another student.
