Extended Summary
The outcome of Charlie’s phone call is revealed – Robert Robertson is coming to back to town to work on the Penn investigation – she is far from happy. He arrives in his usual style, but this time he has a sidekick with him, Graves – a very young detective in training. They take over the sweep of the hotel room – removing Charlie and her team from the scene in the process – and find some sequins they hope will provide a lead. At the Diner, Robertson is disappointed that Leah is overseas visiting an ex-fiancee, and Dex meets Graves – he is instantly smitten, a fact cemented by a further conversation with Romeo and Indi.
Alf confides in Miles that he, Sid and Angelo were discussing ways of getting Penn out of town, and Miles fears what this might mean for the investigation. Miles talks to Sid about the vigilante meeting, but Sid assures him it was all talk. Alf and Sid get their stories straight about the night Penn went missing – they fear the fact they were talking about running Penn out of town may seem suss. Robertson asks Charlie to put together a file on Alf and she realises he’s a suspect. She confides this in an equally worried Angelo, who is acutely aware of what this will mean for his friend. Later that night, Robertson pays Alf a visit – he thinks it’s time they had a chat. The file Charlie has compiled makes it clear they have a history but Robertson still has one burning question – why?
Indi is unhappy with Sid’s advice about telling Romeo about the letter. Romeo asks Dexter about Indi and he tells her it would be best to cut out the middle man – Indi is down on the beach. Romeo and Indi discuss the letter situation and Indi reveals that she feared Romeo was going to agree to Annie’s request to spend the holidays with her in Japan. Romeo reveals that he only ever considered agreeing to go when Indi read the letter – it seemed more fun than hanging around fighting. In the heat of the moment, Romeo blurts out that he’s fallen in love with Indi, a revelation that takes her by surprise. Their lovers tiff is seemingly mended.
When John arrives asking if Xavier would still like help working on the Mad Max car, Gina is a little put out that things are moving on without her, and particularly that Xavier is still keen on working on the car. Little does she know, John is very much in love with her and keen to rekindle their relationship. He reluctantly confides this want in Xavier, who tells John the best plan of action is an apology and then a new ‘proper’ proposal – and Xavier believes that Gina still does want John. John takes the bull by the horns and apologises for hurting her. But he knows she still loves him and that he intends to marry her – one way or another, no matter what it takes. Gina is less than receptive to the declaration and John is left wondering just how he’ll win Gina back.
