Extended Summary
Marilyn has been rushed to the hospital after drowning. It seems that Sid had done enough to save Marilyn, and she appears to have no long lasting effects. The next morning when she wakes up, Sid apologises to Marilyn, explaining that since her heart stopped, she did actually die. Mitzy’s prediction was right all along, and if he hadn’t been so arrogant he could have prevented it. When he later sees Marilyn eating hospital food as opposed to her organic stuff, Sid questions what’s wrong. Marilyn reveals that when she ‘died’, she didn’t see any white lights, or even see her son Byron. Everything she thought would happen did not happen, and as a result it’s made her reassess what she believes in.
Marilyn does start to wonder just what she has put herself and everyone else through the last couple of months. Whilst visiting Marilyn in hospital, Colleen tells her that she has received the DVD she sent, which Marilyn had forgotten all about, and it’s at home in her player ready to watch. Realising she could now receive some backlash from sending the DVD’s out, Marilyn voices her concern when Colleen has left, and Dex heads over to Colleen’s caravan to retrieve the DVD. He manages to get it, but Colleen catches him in the act. As a result, Colleen watches the DVD, which has a confession from Marilyn on it.
Marilyn admits then when she was going out with Colleen’s son Lance many years ago, they accidentally knocked the urn containing Colleen’s mother’s ashes onto the floor. They panicked and replaced them with ashes from the crematorium at the dog’s home. Dex tries to make light of the situation but Colleen is mortified. She storms back to the hospital where she tells Marilyn that she may be a heroine in everyone else’s eyes, but as far as she’s concerned, she no longer exists. Marilyn is dead to her.
After getting a warrant for the Bait shop, Graves has arrived back with a bag of blood-soaked rags, used for gutting fish. Graves still doubts Robertson’s theory of Alf being the killer, and believes Will and Shandi are more likely suspects, but he replies that they should know either way once they’ve questioned Will – he’d have too much to lose by protecting Alf if he did believe he was guilty. Graves then reveals that she found something else, which was hidden away at the back of the shop, an apron also soaked in blood.
Meanwhile, Roo and Alf are going through the bait shop stock, trying to determine what on earth the police could have taken. The next morning, Roo confronts Robertson about his persecution of Alf.
Robertson shows Will the apron during his interrogation, where he reveals that both Penn’s and Alf’s blood were found on it. They take a swab of Will’s DNA to see if it also shows up on the apron. Under heavy interrogation, with Robertson drilling in what will happen to Lily if Will goes to prison, Will caves in. He says that he saw Alf returning to the bait shop with his hands covered in blood the night Penn was murdered. He states, for the record, that he thinks Alf killed Penn.
