Extended Summary
Sid is still reeling from Marilyn’s announcement that she wants to adopt Nicole’s baby. Sid isn’t happy that Marilyn kept it from him for so long, but she explains to him that Nicole isn’t ready to be a Mum and she truly believes she is the person to raise her baby. Without much resolution, Sid leaves for work. The next morning, Sid drops in on Nicole to discuss the arrangement with Marilyn. He explains that the situation affects Indi and Dex too and he’s worried about springing it on them – and he’s not sure he’ll have enough time to adjust the idea. Nicole suggests he should talk over these concerns with Marilyn – but as far as Nicole’s concerned, the baby is already Marilyn’s. Later, Sid and Marilyn finally discuss the issue. He’s concerned that Nicole will change her mind, which Marilyn takes as an indication that he doesn’t want the baby. He tells her that’s not the case – he’s concerned where he fits into the plans, given that Marilyn could make such a life changing decision without consulting him. Marilyn admits she got carried away, and apologises for not discussing it with him first. Sid is appreciative of the apology, and suggests that perhaps he and Marilyn could try having a baby of their own. Sid sits Indi and Dexter down to discuss the situation with them – how would they feel if they were to have a baby? Dex is fine with it and, whilst Indi seems a little more reluctant, she agrees to the idea. Marilyn is thrilled that Dex and Indi are accepting of a new baby coming into the house, but is disappointed to learn that Sid hasn’t told them it’s Nicole’s baby they’re thinking of adopting. Marilyn is disappointed that Sid doesn’t want Nicole’s baby – she has made her decision and isn’t going to change her mind.
VJ has been reading the bible, and whilst Leah is pleased at this, she suggests he try reading something in order to fit in with the other children at High School. Concerned that he might not fit in properly, Leah enlists the help of Dexter to show VJ the ropes and help him settle in. When VJ and Dex talk, VJ’s mind is not immediately put at ease – but Dex tells him just to be himself and, if all else fails, learn to run fast! Later, VJ tells Dexter that Leah seems more concerned about High School than he is – Dexter tells him that’s it’s fine that VJ reads the bible, but it might not be best to advertise the fact. The pair are confronted by a bully and VJ tries standing up to him. The bully is not deterred and Dex tells VJ to run, but gets caught up with the bully himself in the process. As Dex nurses his wounds, Leah thanks him for looking out for VJ, and it seems a new bond as been formed.
Xavier is concerned – he hasn’t heard from April in three weeks, and prior to that they had been in very regular contact. Romeo suggests that perhaps April has moved on, using his situation with Annie as an example, but Xavier isn’t convinced. Indi tries to hide her plans to go to the Uni open day with Nicole, but he insists he’s fine with it all – she suggests he and Xavier hang out with Ruby for the day. Down on the beach, Romeo runs into Liam, who suggests he drop around to check out the tent he’s been living in, which Romeo sees at the perfect opportunity for Xavier to talk to Bianca about April. Later at the Surf Club, Ruby introduces Xavier to the new girl in town, Summer – the pair hit it off and Ruby is pleased that Xavier is no longer the third wheel. Now she can spend more one on one time with Romeo.
The foursome turn up at Liam’s, and soon Xavier is pressing Bianca for information about April – she hasn’t heard from her either, and doesn’t think Xavier should be worrying about it. But Xavier is convinced he’s been dumped, and seizes the opportunity to get to know Summer better. Ruby is having a good time with Romeo, but is put out when Indi and Nicole turn up. The night draws in, and Xavier and Summer are getting cosy. Just as they have their first kiss, a taxi pulls up – it’s April, and she’s not happy by the sight that greets her.
