Extended Summary

Downstairs at the surf club, Xander is handing out flyers and extolling the virtues of the Midnight at Salt event. He offers one to Harper, who indicates it’s not really her thing at the moment, and to Mali, who says he already knows about it and will get tickets later. Tane comes in and asks Xander if Felicity’s upstairs. After Xander has moved off, Mali chats to Tane about Mackenzie, with him mentioning her getting the call from Levi. He says that his visit to New Zealand taught him that there’s nothing for him in Summer Bay anymore and he should move back. Harper comes over and chats about not having seen Tane in a while.

Round the back of the Lyrik house, Theo and Kirby are rehearsing but Theo’s singing is rather flat. He explains that he’s tired and didn’t get much sleep last night. Kirby remarks that he’s a foot longer than their couch. Theo wonders if staying away for a couple of days is going to be enough to let Justin and Leah reconnect. Kirby reminds him they’re trying to keep the band afloat. Theo gets a text from Justin and remembers he was meant to pick up some parts. Despite Kirby’s protests, he dashes off.

At the Diner, Justin apologises to Marilyn for getting her to spend her break chatting about Valerie and notes they’ve both got questions about her but he doesn’t have a choice about her staying. Theo comes in and apologises for not picking up the parts, saying he was busy with rehearsals and TAFE. Justin isn’t bothered but tells him about Valerie moving in and that it was Leah’s idea. Theo is fine with it, since he likes Valerie and it’ll help Leah.

At the surf club, Harper asks Tane if something happened between him and Felicity. Tane says it did but doesn’t give any details and quickly makes his excuses to go see Felicity. Rose comes in, ready to meet Mali for a walk, but Mali tells her that a surf client who cancelled has just booked it again and he doesn’t think he can let him down. Rose is disappointed but accepts it.

A dressed up Felicity is up in Salt setting tables. Tane comes up and Felicity is pleased to see he’s back but not in the mood to talk, saying she accepts that they’re done and they don’t have to have a major conversation about it.

Tane still wants to talk and Felicity says to come back later. Tane leaves as Xander arrives and checks on Felicity.

Harper comes home to Dana trying to convince her to go to an indoor rock climbing place in Yabbie Creek to meet new people (especially guys). Harper mentions Tane being back and that he didn’t tell her why he went.

Dana tells Harper to take a shower while she gets a pizza, noting it’ll give her an opportunity to see what Xander’s done.

Xander asks Felicity if they can have a bottle of champagne as a door prize and Felicity says they’ll use local bubbly, before noting they still have two tables to fill. Dana comes in and asks if Xander is taking part himself.

Xander indicates he has no-one to go with so Dana suggests he goes with Harper. Felicity encourages him, saying they have a free table and staff can cover for him, but Xander says no.

Later, Dana makes another attempt to talk Xander round, saying Harper’s cute. Xander says half the Bay is. Dana suggests it’s a good chance to get to know her but he continues to refuse.

Mali comes up to book a table and explains it’s a surprise for Rose. He asks Felicity if she’s spoken to Tane and Felicity says not really. Mali thinks she should.

Rose and Kirby walk through a park area. Kirby comments on Theo ditching rehearsals, admitting they’re probably going to be okay but saying she’s a perfectionist. She also reveals she’s retrieved Remi’s bike and Justin has agreed to fix it. At the Morgan house, Justin sees Theo getting ready and suggests he goes with him, since Leah’s with Valerie and he doesn’t want to crowd her. He again asks if Theo’s fine with Valerie being there, admitting he was a bit worried. Theo says he’s spoken to Valerie and Justin has nothing to worry about.

Mali follows Felicity out onto the balcony and tells her she really needs to talk to Tane.

Felicity says they don’t need to be part of each other’s lives anymore. Mali says that might not be a problem and Felicity asks what she means.

Soon after, Felicity heads round to the farm house to see Tane, wondering why she had to hear it from Mali. Tane says he tried to tell her. He insists that it’s the best way for them both to move on and stop bumping into each other.

Rose appears outside the surf club in answer to a text from Mali but she’s in uniform. Mali explains he’d booked tickets as a surprise. Rose agrees it was a nice idea but says it’s too late for her to swap her shift and argues that she hasn’t had a chance to tell him she’s working. They say a polite but awkward goodbye. Meanwhile, Felicity is trying to tell Tane he doesn’t have to give up his life. Tane thinks neither of them will be comfortable with seeing the other one dating someone else. Felicity argues that they both want the other to be happy and will do whatever it takes to make it work. They hug goodbye.

Xander looks around Salt, which is filling up but still has a number of tables free. Justin checks on Theo and Kirby, saying he’ll stay for the first song and then head home to Leah.

As Theo and Kirby introduce the event and give credit to Xander, Mali arrives and tells Xander about the miscommunication with Rose, explaining he decided to come anyway and enjoy the music. Felicity arrives back and discreetly tells Mali that Tane won’t be making any life-changing decisions. Xander asks Felicity to cover him for half an hour.

At the beach house, Harper and Dana are making plans for a girls’ night in, celebrating being single and 20-something. Dana suggests taking pottery classes together. Xander turns up, having smartened up, and tells Dana that he’s there to take Harper out like she asked. Dana is pleased but Harper is confused. Both Xander and Harper look to Dana for an explanation.

Meanwhile, as Theo and Kirby continue their set, Felicity sits with Mali and comments on what a good job Xander has done. Although she’s pleased how things went with Tane, she decides not to stay for the night, telling Mali Xander will be back soon.

Back at the beach house, Xander can hear every word as, in the bedroom, Dana tries to pick out a dress for Harper who is objecting to being set up on a blind date. She also isn’t keen on being taken on a pity date and Dana argues that they’re each other’s pity dates. Xander calls through asking if he should leave; Harper says yes and Dana tells him to stay where he is. Dana asks Harper if she’d really rather stay at home than go for dinner with a hot guy in a suit.
