All characters on this page scored 1 point in 2010 Most Popular Character vote. This ultimately means that 1 person voted for this person 5th. So, it's a rather motley lot.
86= Josie Russell (1 point)
2004, into 2005 was one of my favourite eras of the show and I always found Josie's struggle of people thinking the worse of her when she was actually a pretty, decent woman who made mistakes. Saying that Angie was such a wonderful character, wasn't it almost inevitable that she wouldn't be remembered as well.
84=. Brendan Austin (1 point)
Disabilities are only really covered sparingly on the show, and in 2009, Brendan Austin, the severly autistic sibling of Hugo and Xavier appeared every now again. In amongst the use of his disability to create chaos such as sending a stone through Roman's window or getting stuck and then falling out of tree, there was some touching scenes as Hugo struggled to cope and Brendan finally found somewhere to fit in.
86=. Shelley Sutherland (1 point)
Probably my personal favourite of the Sutherland characters, Shelley made a brief cameo to collect Kirsty last year, bringing what would appear to be the final curtain call for the entire Sutherland, bringing down the curtain on an entire era of the clan. Though it was a cameo, it would be interesting to see if my favourite Sutherland would have made it without reappearing at the tail end of last year.
86=. Robert Robertson (1 point)
From the quirky name, Robert Robertson is one of the better guest characters from the past year, brought into to solve the forgettable and now apparently pointless murder of Grant Bledcoe. Still, at least he appeared to have the know how to solve a crime which usually appears to be beyond several of his contemporaries.
86=. Matthew Lyons (1 point)
Sometimes you get some votes for relatively minor characters, and much to my embarrassment, I had to check that I wasn't getting him mixed up with Axel Hay, which I wasn't, but it still doesn't exaxtly cast Matthew in the most memorable light. Following in the footsteps of people like Alison Patterson, he was the irritant at school, put in to annoy the nice friendly main cast members, by supplying them drugs or stuff like that. Subsequently replaced by Trey Palmer.
86=. Edward Dunglass (1 point)
Again another character that seems to kick around the bottom of the listings, despite what was a particularly short period of time on the show of only 140 episodes. However one could say it's better to be good and popular for a short period of time, than dull and boring for a long period of time. And that's probably what gives Edward some lasting appeal to this day. In a town full of blond surfing hunks, his dark Goth look, with a passion for reading certainly made him stand out as different.
86=. Tiegan Brook (1 point)
Everytime we hold this poll, I seem to have to write a bit about Tiegan finishing with a point or two, so she obviously made a mark on someone. To be fair to her and the writers, she was one of the better teenagers from the late 90's, after the much maligned Liam, Stephanie and Aaron. In some ways, hers was one of the stories that used to run strong through early Home and Away. From the short-tempered, bed-wetting illiterate that entered the show in 1999, we had seen her grow into a fine young woman by the time she went to live with Pippa.
86=. Saul Bennett (1 point)
As always with these polls, it's nice to see that there are still some fans from the 80's and the 90's about remembering what were great characters from those eras and therefore giving me a chance to write about them. Saul,probably best known for running the commune cult that Selina got dragged into, although it has now passed Irene's mind. Last seen in 1999 from beyond the grave, and it's always positive if they still want you back after you're dead.
86=. Constable Watson (1 point)
In some ways the bottom of the list is more interesting than the top. Most of you, if you're making way through from the bottom to the top can probably guess who will come in the top 10. Yes, they'll might be the odd surprise. However down the bottom you get these apparently random results and coming in with 1 point is the shows guest cop, brought in when things need done properly after Holden, Buckton and Rosetti usually bend the rules to get things done. As the show has moved away from the cop based entertainment, Watson has been seen less, though I can't say I'm losing sleep over it.
86=. Duncan Stewart (1 point)
Born in 1989 and growing up on the show, Duncan was given a storyline or two a year until he mysteriously aged three years after falling and injuring his legs, enough to require a full body transplant.
Duncan was an intriguing character, with two parents who obviously loved him, but neither of whom spent enough time looking after him, nor were they conistent with the way they treated him, let to a troubled kid, crying out for attention and thus began three years of chaos. Blowing up Alf, blowing up his occasional friends, blowing up letter boxes, trashing Nick's room and yet there was the heartbreak of losing his mum and having a dad who couldn'tcope.
86=. Finlay Roberts (1 point)
One drawback of characters and actressses, such as Lynne McGranger playing Irene for decades is that they were once introduced as an important character in someone elses life and Tina Thomsen, who played Finlay has moved on, had a child and does other things with her life, meaning that in those important moments, Irene doesn't necessarily get the support one would expect from their children.
Adopted by the Rosses in 1991, Finlay was on the run from her alcholic mother. If I'm honest, she's not one of the most memorable characters, certainly appearing to play second fiddle to Sophie in terms of stoylines, but it's nice to see that characters that made their debut 20 years ago, still are remembered by pockets of fans.
