Most Popular Character 2006: 11-20

11. Vinnie Patterson (88 points) ▼2

Played by Ryan Kwanten
Some four years after Vinnie left he still manages to keep the newcomers honest. Credit to the way Ryan played him, making Vincent Patterson a unique character and one of the most memorable.

12. Peter Baker (85 points) ►NEW

Played by Nicholas Bishop
The last time we had a Most Popular Character poll, Peter had carried out shoddy police work and ended up in a coma. Once he came out of the coma, he has not only picked up more fans, who are obviously not fans of good clever law stories, but also more blows to the head.

13. Alf Stewart (77 points) ▼7

Played by Ray Meagher
Alf slips down a couple of positions as the Alf of today moves further away from the Alf of yesteryear. The Alf of yesteryear went off at a tangent at the youngsters of the bay and became a legend because of it. A week of Home and Away wasn't a week of Home and Away without Alf getting mad at something or someone. Then Ailsa died and Alf has served drinks for six years.

14. Hayley Smith/Lawson (76 points) ▲5

Played by Rebecca Cartwright & Ella Scott-Lynch
Hayley, another one of Home and Away's infamous face transplants and the view is split over which one was "better". Me, Ella was the better actress in my opinion, but Bec had been Hayley for so long it was sometimes difficult to see someone else playing her. When Kim fell for Ella's Hayley, it was understandable why: she was a dead ringer for his previous girlfriend Kit!!

15. Ric Dalby (75 points) ▲35

Played by Mark Furze
Bad Boy Turned Good No 12. He's the latest in the line of the Home and Away favourite of a troubled kid coming to the Bay and sorting the problems out before leaving a credit to the world. He is also Alf's grandson for added shock value.

16. Eve Jacobsen (75 points) ►NEW

Played by Emily Perry
More commonly known as "Zoe McCallister". There was votes for her each giving her numerous names, but since I found it unlikely that you were voting for someone who had twenty seconds screen time and was never credited, all votes went to the very evil one that must be up on about twenty murder charges now.

16= Pippa Fletcher/Ross (74 points) ▼1

Played by Vanessa Downing & Debra Lawrance
Pippa was there right from the Pilot Episode, fostering approximately a million kids, losing numerous husbands and her second child. For a woman that originally couldn't have children, she made having three look easy. As you might have guessed by the two different looking women in the picture, Pippa has been played by two actresses. Since leaving the show the most dramatic thing that has happened to Pippa is finding out that her son Christopher is gay.

18. Angie Russell (70 points) ▼14

Played by Laurie Foell
Still the favourite Laurie Foell character out of the three, but now as Angie disappears into the near past she begins the almost predictable slide down the rankings. However for a character that lasted less than half a year, she is ultimately one of the more memorable.

19. Tasha Andrews (61 points) ▼2

Played by Isabel Lucas
Tasha and Robbie were one of the favourite Home and Away couples just eighteen months ago. Two different writers later and now they are a laughing stock. However for some reason Tasha hasn't dropped to such the same extent as Robbie. Could it be that her Believers storyline was popular? Could it be that she is just nice to look at?

20. Barry Hyde (57 points) ▲24

Played by Ivar Kants
Barry had just recently arrived around the time this contest was last held. Barry's character as created by Coral Drouyn was the demon headmaster and very one dimensional. Fortunately the character was saved by both Bevan Lee and Dan Bennett. The love which Barry had for his son, the discovery that he had killed his wife to protect Kim, and his relationship with Irene won him, and them, a lot of new fans. Amongst mature female viewers that "come to bed" voice, his loving looks at Irene, and the cuddly persona, were a sure fire hit.
