21. Ailsa Hogan/Stewart (18 points) ▼5
Played by Judy Nunn & Nancye Hayes
One of the longer-serving members of the original cast, Ailsa spent over a decade as the show’s secondary mother figure and the original owner of the first two Diners. It’s perhaps a sign of her impact that, even though she’s now been gone longer than she was on the show, no-one has ever seriously considered having Alf re-marry. |

21= Kyle Braxton (18 points) ►NEW
Played by Nic Westaway
The late arrival Braxton brother just misses out on a place in the Top 20. After a curious entrance which ended with him attempting to murder his younger brother (who, it turns out, he wasn’t related to), he managed to settle down as the voice of sanity among the family and quietly plug away running the family business, while everyone else went off to look after the…other family business. |

23. Kit Hunter (17 points) ▲23
Played by Amy Mizzi
You all know the story: After months of Kit being built up as Noah’s new girlfriend, she was axed from the show after meddling network executives decided she wasn’t pretty enough. And three and a half years and several return visits later, she drove off into the sunset with a future Hollywood leading man after having his baby. Take that, meddling executives! |

23= Robbie Hunter (17 points) ▲11
Played by Jason Smith
And here’s Robbie, on the same number of points as his older sister. A decade before Dexter, another high school geek with a habit of overenunciating his words managed to end up happily married to an unfeasibly attractive female. Managed to survive the latest bout of Morag’s inability to win a case and moved to Boston. No, not the one in Lincolnshire. |
|
23= Ruby Buckton (17 points) ▼12
Played by Rebecca Breeds
Wow, here’s a name I didn’t expect to see feature so highly. Ruby went from bubbly fun-loving girl, to self-absorbed brat, to a pretty screwed up young adult. Opinion on just how sympathetic she was depends on how much you think her entire family dying one by one over about three years justifies. Turned herself in to the police after sabotaging Indi’s car and last heard to be out on bail. In Home and Away world…probably got 20 hours community service. |
|
26. Matt Page (16 points) ►NEW
Played by Alec Snow
A high place for one of the show’s newest characters, who may be the first Leah foster child. Jerks with soft centres and traumatic backgrounds often catch the attention and Matt also has the advantage of dating the latest feisty chick, although it has meant he’s barely spoken to anyone else. |
|
26= Shannon Reed (16 points) ▼8
Played by Isla Fisher
Another one of the ever popular mid-90s teen group (well, apart from Curtis apparently). Shannon was the surprisingly sweet-tempered go-getter who dealt with heavy issues like eating disorders and child abuse with a bit too much ease and eventually ran off to Paris with another woman. |
|
28. Angie Russell (15 points) ▲29
Played by Laurie Foell
Just before Home and Away’s psycho obsession really kicked in, we had Angie Russell, the product of a curious collision between a writer/producer who saw her as an irredeemable monster and an actress who saw her as an ordinary woman having a breakdown. The result was a villain with a nice ambiguous air who’s proven a lot more memorable than the succession of characters seeking to off the Braxtons. |
|
28= Martha MacKenzie (15 points) ▼7
Played by Jodi Gordon
The second child to be born on the show, Martha reappeared over a decade and a half later as a young adult and quickly struck up an on/off relationship with Jack Holden that saw them walk down the aisle twice. After a number of other boyfriends of variable quality and working as everything from a pole dancer to a farmer, Martha ran off with a people smuggler. |
