100-117

The Home and Away Most Popular Character countdown continues. Getting a bit less obscure now: All this lot have 6-8 points, meaning at least two people must have voted for them!

100. Gary Morrow (8 points)

Played by Peter Phelps

The foster father of Cash and Felicity has made a few appearances in recent years, mostly for weddings and funerals. There’s a pleasingly old school feel to the character so you can see why he got the votes.

100= Lance Smart (8 points)

Played by Peter Vroom

Proving more popular than one-time best mate Martin. Lance was written out a short time after Martin so they could continue their bromance in the army. His occasionally-seen mother Colleen being elevated to regular status in later years meant he made a number of guest appearances visiting her.

100= Nicole Franklin (8 points)

Played by Tessa James

Nicole continues to make a strong showing. Introduced as the daughter of Roman, she ended up being taken in by his best friend Miles when he suffered an unfortunate case of “jailed for murder” and just about managed to break the cycle of doomed relationships, even if her happy ending didn’t stick!

103. Amanda Vale (7 points)

Played by Holly Brisley

Amanda started out as some sort of glamorous pseudo-villain who ended up getting rich and owning a mansion. The reveal that she was Belle’s mother caused her to settle down a bit and people who’d hated her a few weeks earlier even turned up to her farewell party, if only to make sure she left.

103= Angelo Rosetta (7 points)

Played by Luke Jacobz

Angelo continues to be surprisingly popular, given that this sometimes-by-the-book-and-sometimes-anything-but police officer spent a lot of his time trying to nail fan favourites Aden and Colby. And that’s nothing compared to what he did to Jack!

103= Ben Astoni (7 points)

Played by Rohan Nichol

The father of the show’s last attempt at a nuclear family, Ben managed to shake off his initial portrayal as a rather two-dimensional overbearing father, getting a decent depression storyline and cementing his bromance with Justin, who he started off thinking had stolen his car.

103= Billie Ashford (7 points)

Played by Tessa de Josselin

Billie was kind of Felicity’s predecessor in being a bit of a marmite character that seemed to have every possible misery including death thrown at her. She eventually managed to settle down in an age-gap relationship with VJ and get a deathbed wedding.

103= Celia Stewart (7 points)

Played by Fiona Spence

The first of Alf’s seemingly endless array of sisters to appear on the show. Celia was a gossipy spinster who seemed to not really do anything in the early episodes before graduating to running the store with him. Her last appearance saw her oddly matchmaking for Heath and Bianca.

103= Christian Green (7 points)

Played by Ditch Davey

Christian came onto the show as Justin’s surgeon and ended up marrying his sister, which isn’t quite as bad as anything Levi’s done but is still probably not in his usual job description. He was pretty much just there to be a decent guy, which he did quite well.

103= Denny Miller (7 points)

Played by Jessica Grace Smith

Denny was introduced shortly after the death of Ethan MacGuire as his previously unknown daughter. She proceeded to make the mistake of hanging around Summer Bay and becoming a Braxton adjacent character, although ironically it was her own family’s dramas that got her killed.

103= Evelyn MacGuire (7 points)

Played by Philippa Northeast

On the same number of points as her half-sister, Evelyn was one of those characters who seemed to lose pretty much every member of her family in the space of a couple of years, which would have been even worse if she hadn’t been a bit annoying. She eventually matured enough to get a happy ending with Matt.

103= Jesse McGregor (7 points)

Played by Ben Unwin

One of the show’s more likable bad boy characters. Somehow, no matter how many times he got mixed up in stolen cars, Jesse was a hard character to hate, to the point that the locals all gathered to wish him luck after he’d accidentally killed old friend Chloe.

103= Mia Anderson (7 points)

Played by Anna Samson

Ah, Mia. Suddenly shoehorned into the Parata family as their new matriarch (couldn’t we have kept Gemma?), her tendency to buy businesses with stolen money or cover up the death of her rapist seemed to bring the family more trouble than she was worth, which may be why she didn’t last long.

113. Brody Morgan (6 points)

Played by Jackson Heywood

Well, it seems Brody is no longer the least popular Morgan! Originally a slightly uptight chef, the show seemed to build up him and Ziggy as a power couple just so that he could cheat on her after less than a year of marriage and get chased out of town. He didn’t come back for Justin’s wedding either.

113= Cassie Turner (6 points)

Played by Sharni Vinson

Taken in by Sally and Flynn to cement their status as the show’s new foster parents, Cassie seemed to become more and more of a train wreck as time went on. If there was someone that it would be an absolutely terrible idea for her to date, she was in there.

113= Joel Nash (6 points)

Played by David Woodley

The beginning of the line that led to Ben, Joel was the previously unmentioned older brother of Travis who moved to Summer Bay with his schoolteacher wife and two teenage children and tried very hard to control the urge to punch anyone dating his daughter. Another rare police officer that isn’t dead.

113= Nick Smith (6 points)

Played by Chris Egan

Nick continues to stick in the memory despite being the least seen of the trio of Smith siblings. He managed to date both the Sutherland twins, a feat which was less unusual than you’d think, before getting a rather perfunctory exit going off to become an actor.

113= Tug O’Neale (6 points)

Played by Tristan Bancks

Tug was down in the first update on one point last time round, making this the biggest climb in position for someone in both polls. He and Sarah have a reputation as “the other Shane and Angel”, even though they weren’t really together for very long at all and broke up for good before Shane and Angel got together!
