Scriptwriting Competition 2008 - The Task

Unless you have been living in a cardboard box for the last six months you'll be aware that the character of Sally Fletcher is leaving Home And Away after 20 eventful years. Her exit storyline will be airing in Australia just as our competition runs. We have decided, perhaps not unsurprisingly, to use this momentous event as the focal point for this year's scriptwriting competition.

The task we are setting you is divided into two parts:

1. What we would like you to do is to come up with your own original idea about how and why Sally leaves Summer Bay. You should summarise this in no more than 200 words.

2. Sally will obviously need to talk to someone about her decision or the reasons that she is leaving Summer Bay. The second part of the task is to write a scene involving Sally and one, or two (maximum) other character(s). Sally has perhaps just told the other character(s), they have perhaps just heard, she might be about to tell them of her decision, or they might be skirting around the issue.

Write a stand alone scene which relates to Sally leaving, using your original story summary as the context for the drama which is taking place. Your scene should be approximately 90 seconds long.

You should attach both your Story Summary and Script, with the following entry form, and email it to competition@backtothebay.com
