Scriptwriting Competition

Ever fancied yourself as a TV Scriptwriter? Ever thought that you could do better than the writers of your favourite show? Have you always wanted Alf and Colleen to hook up? Now is your chance!

BTTB is inviting members to write one scene of Home and Away for a chance to win some great prizes! The competition is open to all members, of any age, around the globe.

The scene should include two existing characters, past or present, from the show and also one new character created by the entrant. The scene should last around one minute and thirty seconds (which tends to be the average scene length on H&A), the best way to find this out is to act it out yourself

A short description (profile, background etc.) of the new character of no more than 100 words should also be included.

The competition will be split into two age categories - 16 and Under, and 17 and Over and the winner of each category will receive the following prizes!

A genuine Home and Away script, signed by the cast! Kindly donated by Seven Network Script Executive Bevan Lee.
A signed copy of Coral Drouyn's book 'Big Screen, Small Screen: A Practical Guide to writing for Film and Television in Australia'  kindly donated by Coral herself
The 'Classic Home and Away' VHS with 5 memorable episodes from H&A history
A  Home and Away novel
(may differ from one shown)
And a few other H&A Goodies!

The competition will be judged by former Home and Away Script Producer Coral Drouyn, who has over 25 years experience of writing for Australian television, and also members of the BTTB staff.

Not sure where to start? Coral has written a short outline on writing a scene that may help you out. You can access it by clicking the link on the right hand side of this page. You also may want to check out the BBC Writers Room which contains useful information for scriptwriting and formatting
